Inleiding
Noordelijk GARAGEGEBOUW van het complex Maastunnel, gelegen op de rechter Maasoever tussen het voorsorteerplein (Droogleever Fortuynplein en Maastunnelplein) en de tunnelingang, tussen het fietspad en de tunneltraverse gedeeltelijk verzonken in het hier aanwezige dijklichaam. Aan de zuidzijde van de rivier bevindt zich een vergelijkbaar vormgegeven garagegebouw.
N.B. De stalen garagedeuren zijn inmiddels vervangen door aluminium deuren.
Omschrijving
Het GARAGEGEBOUW is op een waaiervormige plattegrond geconstrueerd in gewapend beton en gefundeerd op palen van Oregon-pine. Het deels onderkelderde gebouw telt gedeeltelijk twee bouwlagen, waarvan de verdieping wordt afgesloten door een laag koperen schilddak en het garagedeel van de begane grond (zuidelijk deel) een plat dak heeft. De begane grond is bekleed met oranjebruine grestegels, de verdieping is wit gepleisterd. De deuren en de kozijnen zijn van metaal. In de zuidgevel, gericht op de Maastunnel, bevinden zich twee garagedeuren onder een iets omhoog lopende betonnen luifel. Op de begane grond bevindt zich verder een werkplaats, verlicht door een patrijspoort in de oost-, zuid-, en noordgevel. De hoofdingang, die toegang geeft tot een rechte trap naar de verdieping, bevindt zich in de westgevel. Op de verdieping zijn naast toilet, kleed- en doucheruimte een schaftlokaal en een controleurskamer gesitueerd. De ruimten worden verlicht door stroken smalle vensters. De schoorsteen in de noordgevel accentueert het begin van het dijktalud.

Introduction
Northern GARAGE BUILDING of the Maastunnel complex, located on the right bank of the Meuse between the pre-sorting yard (Droogleever Fortuynplein and Maastunnelplein) and the tunnel entrance, between the cycle path and the tunnel traverse partially sunken into the dike body present here. On the southern side of the river there is a similarly designed garage building.

Description
The GARAGE BUILDING is constructed on a fan-shaped floor plan in reinforced concrete and founded on piles of Oregon pine. The partly cellaried building has partially two storeys, of which the upper floor is terminated by a layer of copper hipped roof and the garage section of the ground floor (southern part) has a flat roof. The ground floor is clad with orange-brown glaze tiles, the upper floor is white rendered. The doors and frames are of metal. In the south facade, facing the Maastunnel, there are two garage doors beneath a slightly sloping concrete canopy. On the ground floor there is also a workshop, lit by a porthole in the east, south and north facades. The main entrance, which provides access to a straight staircase to the upper floor, is located in the west facade. On the upper floor, in addition to toilet, changing and shower facilities, there is a messroom and a controller's office. The rooms are lit by strips of narrow windows. The chimney in the north facade accentuates the beginning of the dike slope.
Valuation
Northern GARAGE BUILDING as a historical-functional component of the Maastunnel complex of general importance because of great cultural and architectural historical value, as well as because of urban planning significance.
