Inleiding
TUINMUUR MET BALUSTRADE, ontworpen door architect SF. Hoekstra te Akkrum en behorende bij het door hem ontworpen complex Welgelegen (1927-1929). De tuinmuur staat op de bestaande grondslag van de hoge tuinmuur waarachter eertijds het in de 18de eeuw afgebroken buitenhuis met wandeltuin, vijvers en hoog geboomte schuilging.
Omschrijving
Lage muur, steens gemetseld in bruine baksteen in Noors verband met diepe lintvoeg en platvolle stootvoeg; op de rollaag een contemporaine balustrade van ijzeren hoekprofielen gelast op cirkels; de hoeken zijn op regelmatige afstanden ingesneden. Ongeveer halverwege de muur een breed ijzeren toegangshek met twee vleugels. Bij het toegangshek op de hoek en bij de aansluiting op de betonmuur op de grens met het kerkterrein is de tuinmuur anderhalfsteens en hoger gemetseld.

Introduction
GARDEN WALL WITH BALUSTRADE, designed by architect S.F. Hoekstra of Akkrum and belonging to the complex Welgelegen designed by him (1927-1929). The garden wall stands on the existing base of the high garden wall behind which formerly the country house demolished in the 18th century with pleasure garden, ponds and tall trees was hidden.
Description
Low wall, built in brick in brown brick in Norwegian bond with deep flush joints and fully filled butt joints; on the roll moulding a contemporary balustrade of iron angle sections welded onto circles; the corners are cut at regular intervals. Approximately halfway along the wall a broad iron access gate with two wings. At the access gate at the corner and at the connection to the concrete wall on the boundary with the church grounds the garden wall is one-and-a-half bricks thick and built higher.
