Inleiding
THEEKOEPEL, 18de-eeuws, thans deel uitmakend van het complex Welgelegen dat bij testament werd gesticht door Suster van der Vegt (overleden 1924). Het complex is in de jaren 1928-1929 aangelegd op een perceel dat eertijds de wandeltuin met vijvers en monumentaal geboomte van een buitenhuis met theekoepel was. Het huis werd in de 18de eeuw gesloopt. De 18de-eeuwse theekoepel en de eveneens 18de-eeuwse zonnewijzer bleven bewaard. De wandeltuin, het laatst eigendom van de familie Van der Vegt, lag achter een hoge gemetselde muur. Deze werd afgebroken ten behoeve van de bouw van de huidige lage tuinmuur met balustrade. De theekoepel, die direct aan het Heechein ligt, is ingebed in een barok aandoende aanleg met buxushagen. De ronde vormen verwijzen naar de oost-west as met rond bassin in de tuin van Welgelegen (ontwerp J.W.Verdenius, 1929), waardoor toch een zekere relatie tussen beide tuinen ontstaat. De muurvleugels aan weerszijden zijn gereconstrueerd.
Omschrijving
Achtkante theekoepel, opgetrokken uit rode baksteen en gedekt door een bolvormig koperen dak; geprofileerde daklijst; achtkante topschoorsteen met geprofileerde randen; schoorsteenbord en koperen windvaan. Souterrain met deur, liggende vensters en ijzeren raamrooster. Eenvoudig omlijste verhoogd gelegen ingangspartij met dubbele paneel/glasdeuren; 12-ruits bovenlicht; hardstenen drietreeds stoep met bordes. In zeven van de acht muurvlakken een meerruitsschuifraam (12/16); het achtste blind. Sober maar verzorgd interieur.

THEEKOEPEL van algemeen cultuur-, architectuurhistorisch en tuinhistorisch belang:

TEA PAVILION, 18th century, now forming part of the complex Welgelegen which was founded by bequest by Sister van der Vegt (died 1924). The complex was laid out in the years 1928-1929 on a plot that was formerly the garden walk with ponds and monumental trees of a country house with tea pavilion. The house was demolished in the 18th century. The 18th-century tea pavilion and the likewise 18th-century sundial were preserved. The garden walk, last owned by the Van der Vegt family, lay behind a high brick wall. This was demolished for the construction of the present low garden wall with balustrade. The tea pavilion, which lies directly on the Heechein, is embedded in a baroque-style layout with box hedges. The round forms refer to the east-west axis with round basin in the garden of Welgelegen (design J.W. Verdenius, 1929), whereby a certain relationship between the two gardens is nevertheless created. The wall wings on either side have been reconstructed.

Octagonal tea pavilion, built in red brick and covered by a spherical copper roof; profiled roof edge; octagonal top chimney with profiled edges; chimney board and copper weathervane. Basement with door, recumbent windows and iron window grille. Plainly framed raised entrance section with double panel/glass doors; 12-pane fanlight; hardstone three-step stoep with landing. In seven of the eight wall surfaces a multi-pane sash window (12/16); the eighth blind. Simple but carefully detailed interior.
