Inleiding:
De damsluis in het Valleikanaal (voorheen Schoonderbeekse Grift) bij het Werk aan de Roode Haan diende voor de regulering en doorvoer van het inundatiewater aangevoerd vanaf de Neder Rijn en dat bestemd was voor de noordelijk gelegen inundatiekommen van de Grebbelinie.
Omschrijving:
In 1785 aangelegd WATERWERK, bestaande uit een damsluis. De sluis is in 1847 gemoderniseerd. De sluis is uitgevoerd in metselwerk met deels hardstenen schotbalksponningen en hoekprofielen. Op de sluis ligt een moderne verkeersbrug en de sluis is voorzien van een moderne stuw met bijbehorende moderne machinekasten.
De afmetingen van de damsluis zijn 16,4 bij 17,6 meter inclusief de twee landhoofden. De sluis heeft twee doorstroomopeningen, elk 5 meter breed, gescheiden door een middenpenant van 13, 4 bij 1,75 meter. Aan de noordzijde zijn de landhoofden en de middenpenant lager. In het midden heeft de damsluis 2 x 2 schotbalksponningen en aan de noordzijde een 1 x 1 schotbalksponning.

De damsluis is van algemeen belang vanwege:
Cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de Grebbelinie, zoals deze in een periode van 200 jaar in zes fasen is aangelegd.
Architectuurhistorische waarden in het bijzonder als uiting van de militair-strategische bouwkunde, die gebaseerd is op: a. het systeem van inundatie en accesverdediging (18de, 19de en 20ste eeuw), b. het systeem van 'levende' veldversterking in de diepte (20ste eeuw) c. de voorpostfunctie tijdens de mobilisatie en oorlogshandelingen 1939 – 1940.
