In 1911-1913 tot stand gekomen voormalig BROUWHUIS van de Heineken's Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij op rechthoekig grondplan en met zes bouwlagen onder plat dak met aan de voor- en achterzijde een laag dakschild met hoge boeidelen en gedekt met gesmoorde pannen. Op de ZW-hoek bevond zich oorspronkelijk een aangebouwde rechthoekige toren onder schilddak met luifel; deze is inmiddels gesloopt. Het niet meer vrijstaande brouwhuis heeft de voorgevel aan de Stadhouderskade. Gemetselde gevels in bruinrode baksteen in afwisselend koppen- en strekkenlagen en met gebruik van lichtrode baksteen bij boogfries, cirkel-, segment- en ontspanningsbogen en gevelbanden en natuursteen bij hoge plint, boven- en benedendorpels, kraag-, hoek- en sluitstenen, en consoles en afdekkingen. Symmetrische en vlakke voorgevel van vier traveeën met hoger opgetrokken hoekpartijen waartussen dakschild met twee kleine dakkapellen met zesruits venster onder zinken ingezwekt tentdak. Boven de plint worden de paarsgewijs geplaatste en middels muurdam gescheiden vensters met zesruits schuifraam en tweeruits bovenlicht aan de boven- en benedenzijde afgesloten door dorpels met afschuining. Tussen de begane grond en de eerste verdieping bevinden zich rechthoekige spaarvelden. De vensters van de hoofdverdieping -brouwzaal- zijn eveneens paarsgewijs geplaatst onder ontspanningsbogen met centrale ronde vensteropeningen en hebben halfrond getoogde gelede bovenlichten. De linker vensterpartij heeft de oorspronkelijke zesruits roedenverdeling. De licht getoogde, kleinere en gekoppelde vensters van de tweede en derde verdieping hebben vierruits schuiframen en tweeruits bovenlichten. Tegeltableau over de gehele breedte van de gevel met afbeeldingen van hopbellen en bedrijfsnaam "HEINEKEN'S BIERBROUWERIJ MAATSCHAPPIJ". Hierboven de flankerende met gemetselde lijst recht afgesloten hogere hoekpartijen met gekoppelde halfronde vensters met zesruits schuifraam en geleed bovenlicht onder ontspanningsboog en met zesvoudig boogfries tussen uitkragend gemetselde hoeklisenen van verschillende lengte met consoles en dekplaat. Tussen de hoekpartijen twee series van drie kleine halfronde vensters, waarboven geaccentueerde gootlijst op gemetselde uitkraging op elf consoles. Op het platte deel van het dak een hoge rechthoekige opbouw met niet oorspronkelijke glasgevels en hoog schilddak met overstek. Vier traveeën brede achtergevel met merendeels grote zesruits vensters en met aan de linkerzijde op de bovenverdiepingen hoge hijsluiken, waarvan de bovenste de rechte gevelbeëindiging doorbreekt.
Interieur van de brouwzaal ingericht volgens de eisen van de 'klassieke Duitse traditie' met draaiwielen en acht grote roodkoperen ketels en klaringskuip op verhoging. De diverse werktuigen in verband met de productie van bier staan op verschillende niveaus in een ruimte met wanden van geglazuurde baksteen en crèmekleurige tegels tot aan eenvoudig gestuct plafond, vloer met dito tegels, met granieten rechte trappen met gedrongen trappalen en basementen, kapitelen en consoles. Sierlijke smeedijzeren hekwerken met messing leuning. De ketels in de brouwzaal dateren van twee perioden: vier geklonken roodkoperen ketels dateren van de bouwtijd (gesitueerd in het oudste gedeelte van de brouwzaal), vier andere gelaste roodkoperen ketels, gesitueerd in de uitbreiding van 1956-1958 en daterend uit diezelfde periode, zijn voor de bescherming niet van belang. Op de bovenste verdiepingen van het pand zijn 16 silo's aanwezig, waarvan 10 nog in het bezit zijn van silomonden. Boven op het dak een vernieuwde dakopbouw met hierin oorspronkelijke machinerie.
N.B. de stal uit het laatste kwart van de twintigste eeuw achter het brouwhuis is voor de bescherming niet van belang.
Waardering
Voormalig brouwhuis met bijbehorende onderdelen uit 1911-1913 van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde alsmede wegens de typologische en ensemblewaarde. Former BREWERY BUILDING of the Heineken's Bierbrouwerij Maatschappij constructed in 1911-1913 on a rectangular ground plan with six storeys under a flat roof with a low pitched roof on the front and rear sides with high gable ends and covered with diminished tiles. On the SW corner there was originally an attached rectangular tower under a hipped roof with a canopy; this has since been demolished. The no longer detached brewery building has its front facade on the Stadhouderskade. Rendered facades in brownish-red brick in alternating header and stretcher bond and with the use of light red brick in arch friezes, circular, segmental and relieving arches and gable bands and natural stone for the high plinth, upper and lower jambs, collar, corner and closing stones, and corbels and cappings. Symmetrical and flat front facade of four bays with corner sections raised higher between which a pitched roof with two small roof dormers with six-pane window under zinc-lined tent roof. Above the plinth, the window pairs separated by a wall-plate and featuring six-pane sash windows and two-pane fanlight are terminated at the top and bottom by jambs with bevelled edges. Between the ground floor and the first storey are rectangular spandrel panels. The windows of the main storey - brewing hall - are likewise arranged in pairs under relieving arches with central round window openings and feature semi-circular arched articulated fanlights. The left window group retains the original six-pane glazing bars. The slightly arched, smaller and coupled windows of the second and third storeys have four-pane sash windows and two-pane fanlights. Tile tableau across the full width of the facade with images of hop bines and the company name "HEINEKEN'S BIERBROUWERIJ MAATSCHAPPIJ". Above this the flanking corner sections with rendered list straight terminated and higher coupled semi-circular windows with six-pane sash window and articulated fanlight under relieving arch and with sixfold arch frieze between projecting rendered corner pilasters of varying length with corbels and capping plate. Between the corner sections two series of three small semi-circular windows, above which an accentuated drip moulding on rendered projection on eleven corbels. On the flat part of the roof a high rectangular structure with non-original glazed facades and high hipped roof with overhang. Rear facade four bays wide with mostly large six-pane windows and on the left side on the upper storeys high hoisting doors, the uppermost of which breaks through the straight gable termination.
Interior of the brewing hall fitted out according to the demands of 'classical German tradition' with rotating mechanisms and eight large copper kettles and settling tank on a raised platform. The various machinery in connection with beer production stands at different levels in a space with walls of glazed brick and cream-coloured tiles up to a simply stuccoed ceiling, floor with matching tiles, with granite straight stairs with squat balusters and bases, capitals and corbels. Delicate wrought-iron railings with brass handrail. The kettles in the brewing hall date from two periods: four riveted copper kettles date from the time of construction (situated in the oldest part of the brewing hall), four other welded copper kettles, situated in the 1956-1958 extension and dating from that same period, are not of concern for protection. On the upper storeys of the building are 16 silos, of which 10 still possess silo mouths. Above the roof a renewed roof structure with original machinery therein.
N.B. the stable from the last quarter of the twentieth century behind the brewery building is not of concern for protection.
Valuation
Former brewery building with associated components from 1911-1913 of general importance for its cultural and architectural historical value as well as for its typological and ensemble value. It forms the finest illustration of a classical brewing hall in the German tradition in the Netherlands. Of importance as an essential component of the Heineken complex.
