Inleiding
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een houten achtkante korenmolen uit de eerste helft van de 19e eeuw die in het eind van de 19e eeuw is verhoogd tot stellingmolen;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen van Nederland en de industriële ontwikkeling van Friesland en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege ensemblewaarden in relatie tot de bijbehorende aanbouwen;

Description
Introduction
MILL WITH OUTBUILDINGS. The octagonal mill executed as a standing mill was built in 1834 as a grain mill. The mill was initially presumably a ground-sailed mill, but was raised to a standing mill at the end of the 19th century. A brick warehouse was subsequently built against the substructure and was later extended in phases. Not protected is the most recent (end of 20th century) extension executed in metal. The mill was apparently dismantled in 1927, whereby the sail cross was removed. In 1958 the wooden upper octagon and the roof were removed. The mill remains were given the function of storage space. In the 1990s the then owner Mars proceeded with the restoration of the mill. In 1997 the octagon of a mill from Zwarte Haan, which was built in 1855 for the drainage of the polder Het Noorden, was placed on the still existing substructure. For further completion, use was made of a roof from a mill in East Friesland (Germany). The mill created by means of these actions at the end of the 20th century was given the name 'De Mars'. The mill with the aforementioned outbuildings executed in brickwork is situated on the edge of the village of De Blesse and is clearly visible in the surrounding area.
Description
The mill consists of a brick under-octagon, a pine wood octagon, an octagonal wooden standing, a roof and mortared brick outbuildings. The under-octagon is provided with corner pilasters. The wooden upper octagon has two bint layers. The mill comprising five storeys is covered with thatch. The mortared outbuildings are provided with a flat roof over which the standing partly lies. The mill has two pairs of millstones which are located on a half-loft. The mill is provided with a cast-iron upper shaft and a Flemish catch. The welded steel sails are provided with the Old Dutch sail system.
Valuation
The mill with the aforementioned associated mortared outbuildings is of general importance:
- on account of building-technical and historical values as a recognisable and representative relic of a wooden octagonal grain mill from the first half of the 19th century which was raised to a standing mill at the end of the 19th century;
- on account of cultural-historical values as part of the history of the grain mills of the Netherlands and the industrial development of Friesland and local history;
- on account of ensemble values in relation to the associated outbuildings;
- on account of the intactness of the mill biotope.
The reused wooden upper octagon is of general importance on account of building-technical and historical values as a recognisable and representative relic of a wooden octagonal polder mill from the middle of the 19th century which functioned in Zwarte Haan (Fr.).
