Inleiding
INCOMPLETE MOLEN. De als beltmolen uitgevoerde achtkante molen met de naam 'Welkom' is in 1902 gebouwd als korenmolen. Voor de bouw werden vermoedelijk veel onderdelen gebruikt van de in de toenmalige gemeente Staphorst afgebroken houtzaagmolen 'Werkhorst'. In het verleden had de molen een invaargrot voor transport over het water. De molen is onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis en de staart werden verwijderd. De oostelijk gelegen invaargrot en het toevoerkanaal werden gedempt. De incomplete molen kreeg een functie als opslagruimte, maar is thans in gebruik als woning. Aan de zuidkant werd hij uitgebreid met een rechthoekige houten serre boven de inrit. De serre valt niet onder de werking van de monumentenwet. De molen ligt ten noorden van de lintbebouwing langs de thans gedempte Dedemsvaart. Nabij de molen staan de gebouwen en de schoorsteen van de voormalige aardappelmeelfabriek De Baanbreker, eveneens restanten van een industrieel verleden. De molen is van grote betekenis in het landschap en het dorpsbeeld.
Omschrijving
De incomplete molen bestaat uit een gemetseld bakstenen onderachtkant met belt en daarop een houten achtkant met kap. Binnenin het gemetselde onderachtkant zijn acht zware verticaal gemetselde steunberen opgenomen. Het gemetselde onderachtkant is thans bekleed met hout. De belt is voorzien van één inrit op het zuiden. De uit zes bouwlagen bestaande incomplete molen is boven de duisplanken geheel gedekt met riet. Het gaande werk is nog compleet aanwezig, inclusief het binnengedeelte van de houten bovenas.
Waardering
De incomplete molen is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een houten achtkante korenmolen uit het begin van de 20e eeuw;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als onderdeel van de geschiedenis van de graanmaalderijen van Nederland en de industriële ontwikkeling van Overijssel en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege de gaafheid van de molenbiotoop en de betekenis voor het landschap en het dorpsbeeld;
- vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid als een beltmolen die oorspronkelijk aan één zijde was voorzien van een invaargrot;
- vanwege de grote mate van waarschijnlijkheid dat hier sprake is van een van elders afkomstige overgeplaatste molen.

INCOMPLETE MILL. The octagonal mill executed as a belt mill with the name 'Welkom' was built in 1902 as a grain mill. For the construction, many components were presumably used from the timber saw mill 'Werkhorst' demolished in the then municipality of Staphorst. In the past the mill had an entrance lock for transport by water. The mill is unrigged, with the wind sails and tail removed. The entrance lock located to the east and the supply channel were filled in. The incomplete mill received a function as storage space, but is now in use as a dwelling. On the south side it was extended with a rectangular wooden conservatory above the entrance ramp. The conservatory does not fall under the operation of the Monuments Act. The mill is located north of the ribbon development along the now filled-in Dedemsvaart. Near the mill are the buildings and chimney of the former potato starch factory De Baanbreker, also remnants of an industrial past. The mill is of great significance in the landscape and village character.
Description
The incomplete mill consists of a masoned brick lower octagon with belt and upon it a wooden octagon with roof. Inside the masoned lower octagon eight heavy vertically masoned buttresses are incorporated. The masoned lower octagon is now clad with wood. The belt is provided with one entrance ramp on the south side. The incomplete mill consisting of six storeys is completely covered with thatch above the boards. The internal machinery is still completely present, including the interior of the wooden upper main shaft.
Valuation
The incomplete mill is of general interest:
- on account of construction-historical values as a recognizable and representative relic of a wooden octagonal grain mill from the beginning of the 20th century;
- on account of cultural-historical values as part of the history of grain mills of the Netherlands and the industrial development of Overijssel and local history;
- on account of the integrity of the mill biotope and its significance for the landscape and village character;
- on account of its rarity as a belt mill that was originally provided with an entrance lock on one side;
- on account of the high degree of probability that this is a mill relocated from elsewhere.
