Inleiding
MOLENRESTANT. De ronde stenen molen die bekend stond als de 'Grote Molen' is in 1752 gebouwd als poldermolen voor bemaling van de Kralingerpolder. Hij maalde tezamen met de iets westelijker gelegen 'Kleine Molen' na een omkade voorboezem uit op de Oostgaag, zijnde Delflands boezem. De molen is in 1913 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis, de kap, een deel van de romp en het gaande werk werden verwijderd. Het molenrestant werd toen voorzien van een dieselmotor met centrifugaalpomp ter vervanging van het scheprad als wateropvoerwerktuig. Thans dient het gemaal nog slechts als reserve.
Omschrijving
Het molenrestant bestaat uit de aan een omkade voorboezem gelegen ronde conisch gemetselde bakstenen romp die bovenaan is ingekort en voorzien van een plat dak. Het molenrestant is ingericht als bedrijfsvaardig poldergemaal met daarin nog de centrifugaalpomp uit 1913 maar een inmiddels al eens (1958) vernieuwde dieselmotor als aandrijving.
Waardering
Het molenrestant is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een ronde stenen poldermolen uit het midden van de 18e eeuw die in de 20e eeuw is omgebouwd tot motorgemaal;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de ontginnings- en waterstaatkundige geschiedenis van Zuid-Holland en het Westland in het bijzonder en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege situationele waarden betreffende de belendende waterlopen, waaronder de omkade voorboezem, de nabije molenplaats van de voormalige 'Kleine Molen' en de historische gaafheid van de omgeving;
- vanwege de gaafheid van de molenbiotoop;
- vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid als een ronde stenen poldermolen in Delfland, één van de zeer weinige overgeblevenen van de meer dan 100 vroegere poldermolens is dit gebied;

MILL REMNANT. The round stone mill known as the 'Grote Molen' (Great Mill) was built in 1752 as a polder mill for the drainage of the Kralingerpolder. It milled together with the slightly westerly situated 'Kleine Molen' (Small Mill) after an encircling dam fore-reservoir out into the Oostgaag, being the Delft boezem. The mill was dismantled in 1913, with the sails, cap, part of the body and the machinery removed. The mill remnant was then equipped with a diesel engine with centrifugal pump to replace the scoop wheel as a water-lifting device. The pumping station currently serves only as a reserve.

The mill remnant consists of the round conically masonry brick body situated at an encircling dam fore-reservoir, which has been shortened at the top and provided with a flat roof. The mill remnant is fitted out as an operationally serviceable polder pumping station with the centrifugal pump from 1913 still inside but a diesel engine that has meanwhile been renewed once (1958) as the drive.

- on account of the integrity of the mill biotope;
- on account of its rarity as a round stone polder mill in Delfland, one of the very few survivors of more than 100 former polder mills in this area;
- on account of the fact that this mill belonged to the older round stone polder mills built in Holland.
