Inleiding
MOLENROMP. De wipmolen met de aanduiding 'Molen No. 5' is in 1623 gebouwd als schepradmolen voor de bemaling van de toen nog niet verveende polder. Na het uitvenen van het gebied is hij ingeschakeld bij de droogmaking van de plas en daartoe ingericht als bovenmolen van een tweegang vijzelmolens (± 1651). Het betreft hier een zeer vroege toepassing van vijzels als wateropvoerwerktuig. In die hoedanigheid heeft hij tot de opheffing van de windbemaling gediend als bovenmolen van de polder De Honderd Morgen of Wilde Venen. Naast deze gang vijzelmolens werd de polder destijds ook nog bemalen door een gang van vier achtkante schepradmolens waarvan eveneens nog restanten bestaan. De molen was voorzien van een inwendige molenaarswoning en vormde samen met 'Molen No. 6' een gang vijzelmolens. Hij is omstreeks 1925 onttakeld, waarbij het wiekenkruis, het bovenhuis en het gaande werk werden verwijderd. De molenromp kreeg een functie als woning en is tot op heden als zodanig in gebruik. De molenromp ligt aan het einde van het riviertje de Rotte. In de nabijheid staat de incomplete molen 'Molen No. 6'. De molenromp heeft een belangrijke landschappelijke functie in het open polderlandschap.
Omschrijving
De molenromp bestaat uit een lage gemetselde bakstenen voet met daarop de houten piramidevormige ondertoren van een wipmolen. De uit twee bouwlagen bestaande molenromp is gedekt met riet en is voorzien van een plat dak. Aan de noordzijde is een latere aanbouw met woongedeelte en verbindingsgang aanwezig die niet onder de werking van de Monumentenwet valt.
Waardering
De molenromp is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege bouwtechnisch-historische waarden als herkenbaar en representatief relict van een wipmolen, het enige restant nog van dit type in het gebied rond de Rotte;
- vanwege cultuurhistorische waarden als essentieel onderdeel van de ontginnings- en waterstaatkundige geschiedenis van Zuid-Holland en Schieland in het bijzonder en de plaatselijke geschiedenis;
- vanwege ensemblewaarden in relatie tot de incomplete molen 'Molen No. 6';
- vanwege situationele waarden betreffende de historische gaafheid van de omgeving;
- vanwege zijn zeldzaamheid als oude poldermolen die later is omgebouwd tot bovenmolen van een tweegang;
- vanwege zijn betrokkenheid - eerst als poldermolen, later ten behoeve van de droogmakerij - en de zeer vroege toepassing hier van vijzels als wateropvoerwerktuig.

Introduction
MILL HULL. The polder mill marked as 'Mill No. 5' was built in 1623 as a scoop wheel mill for the drainage of the polder which had not yet been peat-extracted at that time. After the area had been peat-extracted, it was used for the drainage of the lake and was converted for this purpose into an upper mill of a two-stage screw pump mills (± 1651). This concerns a very early application of screw pumps as a water-lifting device. In this capacity it served until the windmill drainage was discontinued as an upper mill of the polder De Honderd Morgen or Wilde Venen. Alongside this series of screw pump mills, the polder was also drained at that time by a series of four octagonal scoop wheel mills, of which remnants still exist. The mill was fitted with an internal miller's dwelling and together with 'Mill No. 6' formed a series of screw pump mills. Around 1925 it was dismantled, whereby the windlass cross, the cap and the machinery were removed. The mill hull was given a function as a dwelling and continues to be used as such to the present day. The mill hull is situated at the end of the small river de Rotte. In the vicinity stands the incomplete mill 'Mill No. 6'. The mill hull has an important landscape function in the open polder landscape.
Description
The mill hull consists of a low brick masonry base with on top a wooden pyramid-shaped lower tower of a polder mill. The mill hull, which comprises two storeys, is covered with thatch and is provided with a flat roof. On the north side is a later extension with residential part and connecting passage which is not subject to the National Monuments Act.
Valuation
The mill hull is of general importance:
- for constructional and historical values as a recognizable and representative relic of a polder mill, the only remaining example of this type in the area around the Rotte;
- for cultural-historical values as an essential part of the reclamation and water management history of South Holland and Schieland in particular and of local history;
- for ensemble values in relation to the incomplete mill 'Mill No. 6';
- for situational values concerning the historical integrity of the surroundings;
- for its rarity as an old polder mill that was later converted into an upper mill of a two-stage mill;
- for its involvement - first as a polder mill, later for the purposes of drainage - and the very early application here of screw pumps as a water-lifting device.
