The register's description

Inleiding

HOEVE KONING WILLEM III.

Introduction

HOEVE KONING WILLEM III. BARN built in 1865 at the instigation and according to the design of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid. The architecture is sober but carefully executed and features some eclectic elements. Internally a collar-tie roof truss. The original stalling arrangement is no longer present. The cubicle barn on the rear side was constructed around 1998 as a replacement for its predecessor. The business has long served as a model for the upscaling policy of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid and has always fulfilled a model function within the business operations of the Maatschappij. The presence of modern milking robots and an automatic feeding system testify to this. The associated detached dwelling and other auxiliary buildings are not protected due to the absence of monumental value. The protection is directed exclusively at the barn from 1865. Hoeve Koning Willem III is markedly located within the area to be designated as a protected townscape Frederiksoord-Wilhelminaoord.

Description

BARN constructed of red hand-moulded brick and covered by a thatched hipped roof with half-hipped end at the rear; wind vanes; gable board; below along the right side gable and rear gable several rows of tiles (including improved red Dutch tile); cast iron roof windows. In the front gable a stable door with three-light fanlight; on either side two wooden nine-light windows, all gable openings arched and with 'eyebrows' with natural stone corner and coping stones; on the right a wooden roller door under a string course. Centrally a name board with the inscription: HOEVE KONING WILLEM III. In the side gables two-light stable windows and single and double stable doors. The rear gable adjoins the new cubicle barn. Internally high-rising softwood collar-tie roof truss with round timbers and upright diagonal braces; masoned sties.

Valuation

BARN of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance because of the model function within the agricultural developments of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid, because of the sober but carefully executed design and the material use characteristic for the time of its creation, because of the presence of an impressive collar-tie roof truss as well as because of its striking location in a valuable area to be designated as a protected townscape.
