Introduction

To the southwest of the house site, in the former vegetable garden, there are a former orangery, a tool shed, cold frames and a garden wall with grape house. The orangery dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. The outbuildings from the twentieth century are of secondary importance for protection. The tool shed, cold frames and garden wall with grape house date from the second half of the nineteenth century; they possibly originate from the time of the Poortman layout (circa 1889). The wall is presumably older, from the first half of the nineteenth century.

Description

Former ORANGERY, forming part of an ensemble of orangery, tool shed, cold frames and garden wall with grape house, located on the former vegetable garden complex of the country estate Nijenhuis. This red brick building consists of one storey and an attic storey under a barrel-vaulted gabled roof, covered with dulled Dutch tiles. In the front facade five tall, double, glazed doors with multiple panes (2x3) with multi-pane fanlight (2x1), simple green-painted shutters on either side. Centrally at the apex of both end gables a hatch/door in which a pointed-arch-shaped window is incorporated, provided with glazing bars. The rear facade is blind. Against the east side an outbuilding (twentieth century); on the front (south) at over one metre distance a greenhouse (twentieth century), which is connected to the orangery via a connection at the middle pair of doors. The building is nowadays in use as a nursery. The orangery dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. The outbuildings from the twentieth century are of secondary importance for protection.
