Omschrijving

LANDHUIS.

Description

MANOR HOUSE. The main building was designed in 1863 by P.J.H. Cuypers for the De Zantis family. The design is eclectic, with many Romanesque Revival and Gothic Revival style characteristics. The brick building has been whitewashed in the course of the 20th century. It consists of two wings at right angles to one another with a stair tower in the angle between them. The building is constructed against the farmhouse (see component 3). The main wing has two relatively high storeys under an attic storey, on an equally high basement storey. The ground floor level lies approximately one metre above ground level. The gabled roof, covered with grey Tuiles du Nord and right-hand-laying Dutch tiles, has generous overhang, also at the gable ends. The other wing has the same number of storeys, but because the basement storey is missing and the storeys are less high, this building section appears one storey lower. This lower wing is structurally connected to the farmhouse; the hipped roof is covered with grey tiles. The square tower, of which the roof foot is at the ridge height of the main wing, has a pyramid roof, covered with grey slate in Maas bond, of which the roof surfaces are triangularly canted in. In the tower a simple straight staircase with landings and railings with bevelled and grooved laths. In the hall and on the floor level large windows with star motifs, around the doors and in the stair hall canted mouldings. In the sitting rooms composite beam layers with flattened vaults and two polychromed marl-stone fireplace mantels. The Gothic Revival fireplace mantels are provided with black marble columns and top plates. The interior was probably executed by Cuypers' art workshop "Cuypers en Co" in Roermond.

Valuation

MANOR HOUSE of general importance:

- because of the age

- because of the quality and distinctive design of the architecture

- as a well-preserved early work of P.J.H. Cuypers

- as the focal point and starting point for the composition of the park layout

- because of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate

- because of the distinctive location in the landscape
