Omschrijving onderdeel 1
KASTEEL. Midden 17de-eeuws kasteel op rechthoekige grondslag, van baksteen met mergelbanden; boven een hoog onderhuis twee verdiepingen en een zolder; slechts één kamer diep (twee vensters) onder leien gedekt schilddak met ingezwenkt ruim overstek met noktorentje; aan de achterzijde (west- en parkzijde) tien (smalle) vensters breed. Op de zuidelijke kopgevel zit tussen twee ramen op de verdieping een zonnewijzer, XVIII? In de jaren '10 van de 20ste eeuw zijn aan de lange achterzijde op het niveau van de woonverdieping twee terassen in symmetrie gebouwd aan de noord- en zuideinde van de gevel; via twee monumentale trappen daalt men af naar een lager, ertussen gelegen terras, dat iets boven het waterpeil van de gracht ligt; de twee hoge terassen zijn min of meer vierkant: één zijde grenst aan de kasteelgevel en de andere drie rusten op halfronde bogen in baksteen; ook de borstwering (onregelmatige mergelblokken) van de trappen eindigt via een kwartronde bocht beneden in twee pijlers (mergel). De twee nokschoorstenen van Kasteel Wijlre zijn van mergel en baksteen, hetzelfde geldt voor de nokpionnen met windvaan. Aan de zijde van de achtergevel staan op de trappijlers siervazen (naar het laag gelegen middenterras). Voorts nog karakteristieke elementen als, bijvoorbeeld, dubbele terrasdeuren, (sier)ankers, dakkapellen met ornamenten. Inwendig heeft het Kasteel zijn hoofdindeling behouden; de uitmonstering van het interieur is sober van karakter en bevat o.m. vensters met binnenluiken.

CASTLE. Mid-17th-century castle on rectangular plan, of brick with marl bands; above a high ground storey two storeys and an attic; only one room deep (two windows) covered with slate hipped roof with inset wide overhang with roof turret; on the rear side (west and park side) ten (narrow) windows wide. On the southern gable end between two windows on the upper storey is a sundial, 18th century? In the 1910s two terraces in symmetry were built on the long rear side at the level of the living storey at the north and south end of the facade; via two monumental staircases one descends to a lower terrace situated between them, which lies slightly above the water level of the moat; the two high terraces are more or less square: one side borders the castle facade and the other three rest on semicircular arches in brick; the balustrade (irregular marl blocks) of the stairs likewise ends via a quarter-round curve below in two piers (marl). The two roof chimneys of Kasteel Wijlre are of marl and brick, the same applies to the roof ridge finials with weathervane. On the side of the rear facade stand ornamental vases on the terrace piers (facing the low-lying central terrace). Further characteristic elements such as, for example, double terrace doors, (ornamental) wall anchors, roof dormers with ornaments. Internally the Castle has retained its main layout; the furnishings of the interior are sober in character and include, among other things, windows with interior shutters.
