Omschrijving
Inleiding
Balkenplafonds.

Description
Introduction
LOCKKEEPER'S COTTAGE, located on an old dike, built in Craft-Traditional construction style. The house was built between 1668 and 1689 and subsequently modified. Restoration and conversion to holiday cottage in 1969. The property is located very remotely, far from the public road, along the length axis of the dike on a spacious lot with standard fruit trees, including apple and walnut, bordered with willows, Canadian poplars and linden trees.
Description
Above a black plinth, a white-painted single-storey house under a gabled roof between spout gables with abutting stones and wattle-and-daub and an adjoining rear cottage of the same type, both thatched with reed. On the side of the entrance, the roof edge is equipped with a zinc gutter on iron supports. The building, which is entirely constructed from IJsselstein in English bond, has a rectangular footprint and consists of two sections: a front house that, after a party wall, the former outer wall, transitions into a slightly lower rear cottage. In the long left gable, this manifests itself through a slight offset, indicating that the rear cottage is a later addition. Against the party wall in the rear cottage, a brick chimney. The short south gable of the front house is asymmetrically arranged. It has a spout gable equipped with wattle-and-daub which terminates in a brick chimney. The left roof slope extends considerably lower than the right one. At the far left is a door, to its right two windows with double hinged shutters with a bar lock. At attic level two smaller windows, each with a hinged shutter. The window openings have roll mouldings. 6 bar anchors. The right side gable has two large windows equipped with double hinged shutters with a bar lock, on the left with roll mouldings above and below, on the right only above (possibly the location of the original front door). Cellar window with a grille and divided hinged casement. 4 bar anchors. The adjoining gable of the rear cottage has two windows equipped with double hinged shutters with a bar lock, at the far right an old door in an old frame with roll moulding. Hard stone threshold. In the gable, traces of roll mouldings from other window openings. The right window has old hinges and fasteners. Below the rainwater outlet at the far right, a hard stone sink. 3 bar anchors. The short spout gable of the rear cottage also terminates in a brick chimney and displays numerous building traces. In the masonry, a considerably lower original roof line is evident. Moreover, the house was extended to the right. On the ground floor two narrow tall windows, a small square window and at the far right a door. Simple hinged shutters, no roll mouldings. At attic level two small windows with shutter and tiles as threshold. The long rear gable is partly renewed at the location of the rear cottage. Two small windows with hinged shutter, zinc gutter on iron supports. A step in the masonry marks the division between front and rear cottage. The rear gable of the front house has a small double window in a frame with a central mullion and hinged shutters and a small window with hinged shutter and old fasteners. The frames and sashes are painted white, the doors dark green. When open, the shutters display hourglass motifs in red, white and dark green; when closed the shutters are dark green. Internally, the original layout is partly preserved. Beneath the front house is a simple barrel-vaulted cellar. At the location of the former fireplace with Delft tiles, a passage between front and rear cottage was created in 1969. For this, the carpentry bed-alcoves on either side had to be removed. Beam ceilings.
Valuation
The lockkeeper's cottage from 1668-1689 and subsequent years is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an example of a lockkeeper's cottage with lock in an old dike-building context. The building has architectural-historical value because of the well-preserved main structure inside and out and the traditional use of materials. The house is significant for building history because of the legible building traces. Together with the nearby lock, the lockkeeper's cottage has ensemble value.
