Inleiding
De nabij Fortmond in landelijk gebied aan de IJssel gelegen baksteenfabriek De Duursche Waarden is in circa 1920 gebouwd. Het geheel bestaat nu nog uit een schoorsteen staande tussen twee ovens. De twee ovens zijn vervallen tot ruïne. Op de ovens ligt een afdeklaag van zand. De schoorsteen is opgebouwd uit rode radiaalstenen die afkomstig waren van de Venlose firma Canoy-Herfkens. Dit is zeer uitzonderlijk, omdat steenfabrieken meestal eigen stenen of stenen die gebakken waren bij collega-fabrieken gebruikten.
Omschrijving
Een schoorsteen opgebouwd uit een vierkant door getande sierranden bekroond basement van waalstenen en een sobere ronde schacht. Aan elke zijde van het basement zijn uitsparingen gemaakt. De originele kop van de schoorsteen heeft van boven naar beneden enkele uitkragingen. De overgebleven restanten van de ovens zijn eveneens van baksteen en hebben beide een langgerekte bouwmassa. De ovenlichamen hebben halfronde openingen naar buiten toe. De kappen ontbreken.
Waardering
De steenfabriek is van belang:
- vanwege zijn unieke ligging in een open, onverstoord uiterwaardenlandschap;
- vanwege de visuele waarde van de schoorsteen als beeldbepalend element in de omgeving;
- vanwege de ensemblewaarde van de complete en hoge schoorsteen met de ovens;
- vanwege de regionale waarde als voorbeeld van het enige overgebleven complex met een schoorsteen en een dubbele oven in het IJsselgebied;
- als fraai voorbeeld van het beeld van de steenfabriek aan de grote rivieren in het algemeen en uniek voor Overijssel in het bijzonder;
- vanwege de hoge mate van originaliteit van de schoorsteen;
- vanwege zijn hoge landschappelijke kwaliteit door de solitaire ligging van de schoorsteen en de ovens in combinatie met de nog waarneembare afgevette kleigrond;

Introduction
The brick factory De Duursche Waarden, situated near Fortmond in rural area by the IJssel, was built around 1920. The whole now still consists of a chimney standing between two kilns.
