Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The "Misthoorn" was built around 1900 as a MISTHORN HOUSE on commission of the Water Authority and forms part of a complex. The complex also includes a lighthouse keeper's house. The house originally bore a so-called misthorn, which was used to warn passing ships at short distance with sound signals in poor visibility. The property, located at the former harbor on the northern part of Schokland (the dwelling terp Emmeloord), lost its original function with the reclamation of this part of the Zuiderzee. In 1980 the house was renovated and received a use as sleeping accommodation for guests of the users of the nearby lighthouse keeper's house. Following a major renovation of the interior in 1996, the property received its current function as an information building, however only open to the public in the summer months. The interior contains no special elements and therefore does not fall under the protection. The building forms part of the former island Schokland.
Description
From a square floor plan, constructed in neat brickwork, a single-storey building under a Dutch pantile-covered truncated hip roof. Lower and upper parts of the façades with vertically-laid bricks in Flemish bond, middle façade sections with horizontally-laid bricks in cross bond. Façade edges of profiled artificial stone. All windows with grès sill. From the base of the roof (north-east corner) a brick chimney protrudes. In the eastern roof slope a small wooden dormer window. On top a three-part, square concrete on wooden construction, originally for the attachment of the misthorn. East façade with on the left a straight-hung clamped door with posts on ashlar plinths and a five-light fanlight. To the right of the door two straight-hung four-light windows. In the symmetrical north façade three straight-hung windows as those in the east façade. Identical west façade. South façade with in the centre a straight-hung glass door beneath a five-light fanlight with posts on ashlar plinths and door frame with glazing bars, as well as the large window to the left and the narrower window to the right of the door. To the right in the façade a small window with deep-set cross window. The interior contains no noteworthy components and is therefore of subordinate importance for the protection by the national government.
