Het bij de historische buitenplaats Clingendael behorende, samengestelde ijzeren TOEGANGSHEK staat aan het begin van de oprijlaan naar het huis Clingendael aan de Wassenaarseweg. Na de annexatie van het betreffende grondgebied aan Den Haag aan het begin van de 20ste eeuw, is in opdracht van Baronesse M.M. van Brienen een nieuw toegangshek in historiserende trant geplaatst, die de huidige entree tot de voormalige buitenplaats Clingendael markeert.
Omschrijving
Het decoratief opengewerkte en symmetrische smeedijzeren hekwerk, bestaat uit een dubbel, openslaand toegangshek met rechthoekige, door een lantaarn bekroonde hekstijlen en links en rechts ervan een kleiner, enkel toegangshek. Deze zijn bevestigd aan kleinere, eveneens rechthoekige hekstijlen, die krulmotieven als bekroning hebben, maar tevens zijn voorzien van een paneel. Ook de stijlen waarop de vierkante lantaarns zijn geplaatst zijn voorzien van voluutvormig krulwerk. De lantaarns worden afgedekt door ingesnoerde koperen tentdakjes met naaldvormige bekroning. Aan weerszijden van de toegangshekken bevindt zich een ermee verbonden erfscheiding in de vorm van minder hoog opgaande smeedijzeren hekken, geplaatst op uit grauwe baksteen opgetrokken muurtjes met hardstenen dekplaten. De muurtjes buigen aan het uiteinde weg in de richting van het landgoed. De samenstellende hekdelen hebben een doorlopend motief van stijlen en decoratief krulwerk.
Waardering
Het toegangshek van de historische buitenplaats Clingendael is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorisch en de ensemblewaarde:
- als een bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling en als een belangrijk onderdeel van een der meest vooraanstaande 17de-eeuwse buitenplaatsen in ons land;

The composite iron ACCESS GATE belonging to the historic country estate Clingendael stands at the beginning of the drive leading to the house Clingendael on the Wassenaarseweg. After the annexation of the territory in question to The Hague at the beginning of the 20th century, on the orders of Baroness M.M. van Brieren a new access gate in historicizing style was installed, which marks the current entrance to the former country estate Clingendael.
Description
The decoratively open-worked and symmetrical wrought-iron fencing consists of a double, opening access gate with rectangular gate posts crowned by a lantern and to the left and right of it a smaller, single access gate. These are attached to smaller, equally rectangular gate posts, which have curled motifs as crowning, but are also provided with a panel. The posts on which the square lanterns are placed are likewise provided with scroll-shaped curled work. The lanterns are covered by constricted copper tent roofs with needle-shaped crowning. On either side of the access gates is connected to them a boundary fence in the form of less high wrought-iron gates, placed on small walls built of grey brick with hard stone coping slabs. The small walls curve away at the end in the direction of the estate. The constituent gate components have a continuous motif of posts and decorative curled work.
