Inleiding.
Ten noorden van kazemat 43 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 41, daterende uit 1939-1940. De kazemat is met S (3a) 40 markant gesitueerd op het punt waar het kanaal ter hoogte van de Roijendijk een scherpe, bijna haakse bocht naar het noorden maakt. De wal is ter plaatse grotendeels afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De kazemat geeft door de schietgaten flankerend en frontaal vuur op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont slechts lichte gevechtssporen, bestaande uit enkele kogelinslagen.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. Introduction.
North of casemate 43, on the western bank of the Defensiekanaal stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 41, dating from 1939-1940. The casemate, together with S (3a) 40, is markedly situated at the point where the canal at the level of the Roijendijk makes a sharp, almost right-angled bend to the north. The embankment has been largely excavated at this location.
Description.
The casemate provides flanking and frontal fire through its gun emplacements on the foreground. The casemate has been well preserved and shows only slight combat damage, consisting of a few bullet impacts.
Valuation.
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. It is of architectural and construction-historical importance because of its distinctive use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, particularly in the processing of reinforced concrete.
