Inleiding.
Ten noorden van kazemat 536 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 538, daterende uit 1939-1940. De kazemat staat direct ten noorden van de Langenboomseweg, die ter plaatse het kanaal kruist. De wal is ter plaatse afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De kazemat staat direct ten noorden van de vernieuwde brug over het kanaal. Door het rechter schietgat kon de kazemat flankerend vuur op deze weg geven. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont aan de frontzijde zware gevechtsschade, met inslagen van pantserafweergeschut, artillerie en mitrailleurvuur. Bovendien werd het rechter schietgat met pantserafweergeschut doorboord.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid.
