Inleiding.
Ten oosten van kazemat 526 staat op de noordelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 528, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal gedeeltelijk afgegraven.
Omschrijving.
De kazemat staat op een plaats waar het kanaal een bocht van negentig graden in oostelijke richting maakt. De S-kazemat kan flankerend vuur uitbrengen op het oostelijke en westelijke kanaalpand, alsmede frontaal vuur op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtsschade, op enkele kogelinslagen op linker frontzijde en rechter achterzijde na.
Waardering.
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. East of casemate 526, on the northern embankment of the Defensiekanaal, stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 528, dating from 1939-1940. The wall is partially excavated at this point on the canal side.
