Inleiding
Tussen kazemat 36-37 ligt in het Defensiekanaal een betonnen VERDEELWERK ANNEX STUW. Deze behoort tot het oorspronkelijke ontwerp van het Defensiekanaal en dateert uit 1939. Door middel van het verdeelwerk kon de hoogte van de waterstand in het Defensiekanaal worden geregeld: overtollig water werd en wordt in oostelijke richting naar de Raam en uiteindelijk de Maas afgevoerd.
Omschrijving.
Van de in het kanaal staande wand van de stuw resteert het betonnen casco. Ook de betonnen stuwvloer en -wanden zijn nog op hun plaats. De schuif in de stuw is verdwenen.
Waardering.
Het verdeelwerk is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en sis als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van morderne technieken, ter aanpassing van de waterhuishouding aan militaire doelen. Het geheel heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. Introduction
Between casemate 36-37 lies a concrete DISTRIBUTION WORK ANNEX WEIR in the Defensiekanaal. This belongs to the original design of the Defensiekanaal and dates from 1939. By means of the distribution work, the height of the water level in the Defensiekanaal could be regulated: surplus water was and is discharged in an easterly direction towards the Raam and ultimately the Maas.
Description.
Of the wall of the weir standing in the canal, the concrete shell remains. The concrete weir floor and walls are also still in place. The sluice gate in the weir has disappeared.
Valuation.
The distribution work is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and as such is an important document of military history. It is of architectural and construction-historical importance because of the particular use of materials and the application of modern techniques, to adapt water management to military purposes.
