Inleiding.
LOURDESGROT in 1905 gebouwd in de kloostertuin van het klooster van de Liefdezusters van het Kostbaar Bloed. De grot is opgericht naar een ontwerp uit 1901 van een van de kloosterzusters in samenwerking met de tuinman en uitgevoerd door de plaatselijke aannemer Nol van Pol. De grot kenmerkt zich door zgn. 'rotseerwerk', de voor Lourdesgrotten gebruikelijke imitatie van grotoppervlak vaak in een combinatie van beton en baksteen. Sinds 1975 is de grot niet meer toegankelijk, omdat de toegang na vandalisme is dichtgemetseld. Vermoedelijk betreft het een combinatie van Lourdesgrot met een voorstelling van de Hof van Olijven.
Omschrijving.
De LOURDESGROT heeft een grillige plattegrond, en heeft een hoog opgaande voorzijde en een lagere, afgeronde achterzijde. Het oppervlak van de grot is uitgevoerd in een combinatie van gesinterde steen, cement en lavasteen met diverse druipsteeneffecten. Aan het pad heeft de grot een breed uitlopend en hoog front waarin in navolging van de Marsabeille te Lourdes een opening, die thans is dichtgemetseld. In de oorspronkelijke situatie heeft de hooggeplaatste rotsspleet boven de entree van de grot naar gebruikelijk model een Mariabeeld bevat. Aan de achterzijde vertoont het bouwwerk eenforse min of meer afgeronde uitstulping, die wijst op een vermoedelijk overwelfde binnenruimte. Het interieur van de grot was uitgevoerd met lichtopeningen voorzien van gekleurd glas en een voorstelling van de drie slapende apostelen in de Hof van Olijven.
Waardering.
De Lourdesgrot in de tuin van het zusterklooster in Koningsbosch vertegenwoordigt algemeen belang en heeft cultuurhistorische waarde en ensemblewaarde als functioneel onderdeel van het kloostercomplex. De Lourdesgrot speelt binnen dit complex en meer specifiek binnen de kloostertuin een belangrijke rol vanwege de samenhang met de in de late negentiende en vroege twintigste eeuw bloeiende devotie rond Maria en het verschijnen van nabootsingen van de grot te Lourdes overal in Europa met name in kloostertuinen en devotieparken. De grot bezit architectuurhistorische en kunsthistorische waarde als een goed en herkenbaar typologisch voorbeeld van een type Lourdesgrot, met voor de tijd en bouwtype typisch materiaalgebruik.

Introduction.
LOURDES GROTTO built in 1905 in the cloister garden of the convent of the Caritas Sisters of the Precious Blood. The grotto was erected after a design from 1901 by one of the cloister sisters in collaboration with the gardener and executed by the local contractor Nol van Pol. The grotto is characterised by so-called 'rockwork', the usual imitation of grotto surface for Lourdes grottos often in a combination of concrete and brick. Since 1975 the grotto has not been accessible, because the entrance was sealed with mortar after vandalism. It is presumed to be a combination of Lourdes grotto with a representation of the Garden of Olives.
Description.
The LOURDES GROTTO has an irregular ground plan, and has a high rising front and a lower, rounded rear. The surface of the grotto is executed in a combination of sintered stone, cement and lava stone with various stalactite effects. On the path the grotto has a broad spreading and high front in which, in imitation of the Massabielle at Lourdes, an opening, which is now sealed with mortar. In the original situation the high-placed rock fissure above the entrance of the grotto contained, according to customary model, an image of Mary. On the rear side the building shows a strong more or less rounded bulge, which indicates a presumed vaulted interior space. The interior of the grotto was executed with light openings provided with coloured glass and a representation of the three sleeping apostles in the Garden of Olives.
Valuation.
The Lourdes grotto in the garden of the sister convent in Koningsbosch represents a matter of general interest and has cultural-historical value and ensemble value as a functional component of the convent complex. The Lourdes grotto plays an important role within this complex and more specifically within the cloister garden because of its connection with the devotion to Mary flourishing in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and the appearance of imitations of the grotto at Lourdes throughout Europe, particularly in cloister gardens and devotion parks. The grotto possesses architectural-historical and art-historical value as a good and readily recognisable typological example of a type of Lourdes grotto, with material use typical for the period and building type.
