Omschrijving
Inleiding
Waardering

Description
Introduction
On the southeastern (front) side of Vossenberg lies, as part of the access defence of the same name, casemate K25, or rather its remains. It is the only remain of a G-casemate in Limburg.
Description
The specific form of the G-casemate, square with rounded corners, is still clearly visible in the ground plan. Besides the remaining ground plan, there are large fragments in the immediate vicinity. The cast-steel dome was removed by the Germans during the Second World War, as were almost all other G-casemates in the Netherlands. In doing so, the casemate was blown up.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a special expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. The remaining object is of architectural and construction-historical importance due to the special use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the processing of reinforced concrete. The remaining object is also of importance for the typological development of various defence objects and structures in respect of national land defence.
The remaining object has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole: on the one hand as part of land defence (the whole body of fortifications on the eve of the Second World War), and on the other hand as an important (structuring) component of the Peel area which is of cultural-historical importance as a military landscape. The casemate has a special historical-spatial relationship with roads, waters and soil conditions of the area. This interweaving also gives the complex great experiential value. Furthermore, attention should be drawn to the completeness of the entire complex. In this context, the entire fortification as a large-scale military complex and a reminder of a large-scale defence measure in relation to the Second World War in Limburg is rare. Finally, the remains of casemate K25 are considered an important "lieu de mémoire" from the Second World War.
