Inleiding
Nabij het zuidpunt van de zandrug ligt kazemat K20, als onderdeel van de accesverdediging Vossenberg. De kazemat ligt aan de rand van het open veld, aan de frontzijde van de zandrug, is gebouwd in 1939-1940 en is van het type S.
Omschrijving
De kazemat heeft vanwege de naoorlogse ontginning van het (zuid)oostelijk gelegen voorterrein van de zandrug een indirecte historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met dit open terrein: de vijand werd immers van deze kant verwacht. De kazemat is gaaf en vertoont geen sporen van gevechtshandelingen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuur-historische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het object is architectuur- en bouwhistorisch van belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het object is ook van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van diverse verdedigingsobjecten- en structuren inzake de nationale landsverdediging.
Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel: enerzijds als onderdeel van de landsverdediging (het geheel aan stellingen aan de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog), en anderzijds als belangrijk (structurerend) onderdeel van het Peelgebied dat als militair landschap cultuur-historisch van belang is. De kazemat heeft een bijzondere historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid van het gebied. Deze verweving geeft het complex ook een grote historische belevingswaarde.
