Inleiding
HOOFDTRAPPENHUIS van het Laboratorium voor Algemene en Analytische Chemie van de Technische Hogeschool, bekend als het gebouw voor Scheikundige Propedeuse, gebouwd naar ontwerp van rijksbouwkundige J.A.W. Vrijman in de stijl van de Overgangsarchitectuur en in gebruik genomen in 1923.
Omschrijving
Het hoofdtrappenhuis bevindt zich in een part bouwvolume en is volledig bekleed met bouwkeramiek in overwegend groen/gele kleur. De rechtgesloten toegangen tot het trappenhuis op de begane grond en op de verdieping hebben keramische kozijnen en omlijstingen van decoratieve reliëftegels. De constructieve onderdelen, zoals de balkenlaag en dragende kolommen zijn eveneens omkleed met bouwkeramiek. De kolommen verbreden zich ter hoogte van de kapitelen, die bestaan uit reeksen van vier sierranden en een voluutvormige overgang naar de verbreding. De vloer bestaat onder meer uit natuurstenen tegels in een geometrisch patroon. De dichte borstweringen zijn boven en beneden afgesloten met bruine sierranden en een zeer brede, bruine handlijst vormt de dekking van de wering. De wanden zijn betegeld met een blauwe lambrizering, een afsluitende rand en een betegelde wand, die afgesloten wordt met een decoratieve sierrand langs het gestucte plafond. De vijf smalle, langgerekte vensters in de zuidgevel zijn driedelig en bevatten gebrandschilderde glazen met voorstellingen met scheikundige instrumenten. Description
The main stairwell is located in a shared building volume and is completely clad with architectural ceramics in predominantly green/yellow colour. The straight-edged entrances to the stairwell on the ground floor and on the upper floor have ceramic frames and surrounds of decorative relief tiles. Structural components such as beam layers and supporting columns are likewise clad in architectural ceramics. The columns widen at the height of the capitals, which consist of sets of four decorative bands and a volute-shaped transition to the widening. The floor consists among other things of natural stone tiles in a geometric pattern. The solid balustrades are closed off above and below with brown decorative bands and a very wide brown handrail forms the covering of the balustrade. The walls are tiled with a blue wainscoting, a closing border and a tiled wall, which is closed off with a decorative ornamental band along the plastered ceiling. The five narrow, elongated windows in the south facade are three-part and contain stained glass with representations of chemical instruments. In the north facade three straight-edged windows with wooden cross windows. The coloured leaded glass features in the upper lights decorative fantasy motifs.
