Inleiding
Het TOEGANGSHEK van de begraafplaats naast de Hervormde kerk aan het Kerkplein te Abbenbroek is in de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw geplaatst. Het betreft een hekwerk met symbolen, zoals met vleugels bekroonde pijlers en een plaquette met tekst, die verwijzen naar de functie van de begraafplaats en die richting geven aan de wijze waarop de begraafplaats dient te worden betreden. Eén vleugel is echter afgebroken. De begraafplaats is naast de linker zijgevel van de kerk gelegen. Een met kiezels bedekt pad voert langs de kerk naar de begraafplaats, die is omringt door een lage bakstenen muur met ezelsrug.
Omschrijving
Het giet- en smeedijzeren toegangshek is tussen een steunbeer van de kerk en de lage begraafplaatsmuur geplaatst. Het toegangshek hek is opgebouwd uit twee hekpijlers, waaraan twee scharnierende en van spijlen voorziene toegangshekken zijn opgehangen. In gesloten toestand vormen de twee hekdelen aan de bovenzijde een holle ellipsboog. Tussen de pijlers is tevens een boog aangebracht, waaraan in het midden een plaquette is bevestigd. De tekst op de plaquette luidt: 'Heb eerbied voor deze plaats/ ontdaan van de aardsche zorgen/ rust hier het menschlijk stof/ tot aan de jongste morgen'.
De pijlers zijn deels gecanneleerd en voorzien van een fantasie-acanthusbladknopmotief, geflankeerd door vleugels. Van het linker ornament is één vleugel afgebroken. De hekdelen zijn elk voorzien van twaalf grote spijlen, met daartussen halfhoge spijlen. De grote spijlen zijn met pijlpunten gedecoreerd. In de onderste helft van de hekdelen is ter versteviging een diagonaal aangebracht.
Waardering
Het toegangshek is van algemeen belang vanwege cultuurhistorische, architectuurhistorische en ensemblewaarde.

Introduction
The CEMETERY GATE of the cemetery beside the Reformed church at Kerkplein in Abbenbroek was placed in the second half of the nineteenth century. This is a gate framework with symbols, such as pillars crowned with wings and a plaque with text, which refer to the function of the cemetery and which indicate the manner in which the cemetery should be entered. One wing has, however, been demolished. The cemetery is situated beside the left side gable of the church. A path covered with gravel leads past the church to the cemetery, which is surrounded by a low brick wall with a saddle back.
Description
The cast iron and wrought iron cemetery gate is placed between a buttress of the church and the low cemetery wall. The cemetery gate is constructed from two gate pillars, to which two hinged and spindled gate leaves are hung. When closed, the two gate sections form a hollow elliptical arch at the top. Between the pillars a bow has also been constructed, to which a plaque is attached in the middle. The text on the plaque reads: 'Show reverence for this place/ free from earthly concerns/ here rests human dust/ until the last morning'.
The pillars are partly fluted and provided with a fantasy acanthus leaf bud motif, flanked by wings. One wing of the left ornament has been broken off. The gate sections are each provided with twelve large spindels, with half-height spindels between them. The large spindels are decorated with arrow points. In the lower half of the gate sections a diagonal has been inserted for reinforcement.
