Inleiding
KANTOOR, behorende bij het woonhuis aan de Grote Markt, gebouwd in 1909 in de stijl van de Neo-Hollandse Renaissance. Het pand maakt onderdeel uit van de gesloten gevelwand aan de Zusterstraat.
Het ontwerp is van de hand van de architect Johannes de Bie uit Gorinchem.
Omschrijving
Het éénlaagse bouwvolume met plat dak is opgetrokken vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond. De voorgevel (zuidgevel) aan de Zusterstraat is opgetrokken in rode kalkzandsteen in combinatie met kunststenen dekplaten en aanzet- en sluitstenen. De kozijnen en lekdorpels zijn van hout. De voorgevel wordt geleed door drie traveeën, die geflankeerd worden door naar voren springende lisenen, die boven de gevel uitgebouwd zijn. De linkertravee bestaat uit een rechtgesloten venster met boogtrommel en schuifraam met driedelig bovenlicht. Boven het venster bevindt zich een tweedelig boogfries, dat afgesloten wordt met een waterlijst. Tussen de uitgebouwde lisenen bevindt zich een gemetselde borstwering met kunststenen dekplaat. De middentravee bestaat uit een rechtgesloten venster met een samengesteld raam, waarin twee schuiframen met driedelig bovenlicht zijn geplaatst. Het geheel wordt bekroond door een strek in gedrukte boogvorm, die in het midden gesloten wordt door een diamantkop. In de rechtse travee bevindt zich de entree met hardstenen stoep. De lisenen zijn hier decoratief en trapsgewijs uitgemetseld. De gevel aan de tuinzijde (noordgevel) is opgetrokken uit lichtgrijze kalkzandsteen met rode speklagen en strekken. De entree bevindt zich links.
INTERIEUR. Het voormalige kantoor heeft de historische indeling grotendeels behouden. In de gang ligt een polychrome tegelvloer met gestileerde bloem- en bladmotieven. De houten deurkozijnen zijn voorzien van gehoute paneeldeuren en hardstenen neuten en dorpels.

Het kantoor is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde:

Description
The single-storey building volume with flat roof is constructed from a rectangular ground plan. The front facade (south facade) at the Zusterstraat is constructed in red calcium silicate brick in combination with artificial stone coping and corner and closing stones. The frames and drip moulds are of wood. The front facade is articulated by three bays, which are flanked by forward-projecting pilasters that extend above the facade. The left bay consists of a right-angled window with arch drum and sash window with three-part fanlight. Above the window is a two-part arch frieze that is closed with a drip moulding. Between the built-out pilasters is a built-in balustrade with artificial stone coping. The middle bay consists of a right-angled window with a composite frame in which two sash windows with three-part fanlight are placed. The whole is crowned by a band in pressed arch form, which is closed in the middle by a diamond head. In the right bay is the entrance with hardstone step. The pilasters are here decorative and stepped in masonry. The facade on the garden side (north facade) is constructed of light grey calcium silicate brick with red brick-courses and stretches. The entrance is on the left.
INTERIOR. The former office has largely retained its historical layout. In the passage is a polychrome tile floor with stylized floral and leaf motifs. The wooden door frames are provided with wooden panelled doors and hardstone nostrils and sills.
