Omschrijving

- Vanwege de ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis;

- Vanwege de bewaard gebleven restanten van twee met eiken beplante lanen (globaal noordzuid en oostwest) en een begrenzende sloot (zuid), waarvan de oorsprong tenminste teruggaat tot de 18de eeuw;

- Vanwege de gemetselde bakstenen tuinmuur uit 1730, die de tuin aan de oost- en westzijde gedeeltelijk begrensd en de lage muur aan de zuidzijde van het huis;

- Vanwege het vroeg landschappelijke slingerbos (tweede helft 18de eeuw) in het westelijk deel van de aanleg;

- Vanwege de nog deels door de oorspronkelijke beukenhagen, houtwallen, sloten en tuinmuur omzoomde voormalige moestuin en boomgaard in het zuidoostelijk deel van de aanleg;

- Vanwege de aanwezigheid van een monumentale houtopstand uit de 18de en 19de eeuw;

- Als representatief en vrij gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een ontwerp van de tuinarchitecte Mien Ruys met terrassen, borders en heesterperken uit 1954;

Description

HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Baljuwhuis. Within the historic boundaries of buildings, garden walls and a system of ditches with banks lies a garden and park layout consisting of former utility grounds (visible on 19th and early 20th-century topographical maps), a romantic woodland (18th century) and a layout by the garden and landscape architect Mien Ruys (1954). The remains of two oak avenues at right angles to each other (18th century) divide the layout. To the southeast of the main axis lie the former utility grounds (presumably 18th century), consisting of kitchen garden and orchard (currently horse pasture and horse arena). The original boundary consisting of beech hedges, banks, ditches and garden wall is still partly intact; a farmhouse and former gardener's cottage form part of the eastern boundary. The spacious romantic woodland with original impressive tree stands and a well-preserved path pattern (18th century) lies to the southwest of the main axis. Possibly this woodland originally extended further northward (topographical maps of the 19th and early 20th century). Behind the house located at the extreme north of the layout and adjoining it a layout by Mien Ruys from 1954, consisting of a spacious stone terrace with different levels and borders around it and a spacious lawn with borders along both garden walls and shrub groups that direct a view in a northwesterly direction. This view is directed at the main axis of the aforementioned cross-shaped avenue structure. The garden walls extend from the Square in a southwesterly direction to halfway through the garden and thus form the northwestern and northeastern boundary of the garden and park layout; they date from 1730. From the same period dates the low wall with urns on the south side of the house.

Valuation

The HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Baljuwhuis is of general importance:

- Because of its development history;

- Because of the preserved remains of two oak-planted avenues (roughly north-south and east-west) and a bordering ditch (south), the origin of which dates back at least to the 18th century;

- Because of the masonry brick garden wall from 1730, which partly bounds the garden on the east and west sides and the low wall on the south side of the house;

- Because of the early romantic woodland (second half of the 18th century) in the western part of the layout;

- Because of the former kitchen garden and orchard in the southeastern part of the layout, still partly bordered by the original beech hedges, banks, ditches and garden wall;

- Because of the presence of a monumental tree stand from the 18th and 19th centuries;

- As a representative and fairly well-preserved example of a design by garden architect Mien Ruys with terraces, borders and shrub beds from 1954;

- Because of the functional and visual-spatial coherence with the other components of the country estate.
