The register's description

Inleiding

- het bouwtype, bestaande uit voor- en achterhuis verbonden door een middengang; dit bouwtype is relatief zeldzaam;

- de gaafheid van de bijzondere hoofdopzet en van de hoofdgevels; het onderscheid tussen voor- en achtergevel qua materiaalgebruik; de gaaf bewaarde winkelpui van (omstreeks) 1905;

- de waarden van de constructie en het interieur (zowel de structuur als de ten dele bewaarde historische afwerking);

Introduction

The house 'Het Witte Laecken' is already mentioned in the sixteenth century; already in 1626 there is mention of a rear building. The present building, which still consists of a front and a rear building, however dates mainly from a later period and was probably built in the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Later, apart from the shop front of (around) 1905, no fundamental alterations took place.

Description

Building consisting of front and rear buildings, connected by means of a centrally placed corridor. Front and rear buildings have a rectangular ground plan and comprise two storeys under a hipped roof. The roofs are fitted with muted old-Dutch tiles and both have two plain roof dormers. Both building components are almost entirely constructed in IJsselsteen, the front facade of the front building however in a Waalformaat considered more representative.

The front facade of the front building has a shop front of (around) 1905 on the ground floor, executed in various materials. Centrally the entrance (glass door with fanlight), on either side large windows with a series of fanlights. Entirely on the left and right of the front a plastered strip with imitation natural stone blocks. In the somewhat wider right strip a second entrance (panel door) is incorporated. On the left there is a narrow access in a single-storey corridor alongside. On the first floor a symmetrical arrangement of five window bays with six-pane sash windows provided with a broad central mullion characteristic of the first quarter of the nineteenth century.

The garden facade of the rear building has a symmetrical arrangement with five bays. Below sash windows consisting of a six-pane lower light and a fanlight with Empire tracery and decorative spandrels. Above six-pane sash windows.

Interior The main layout of the building has been relatively well preserved. The front building originally had a central corridor (now incorporated into the large room on the right) with rooms on either side. Corridors are situated to the side (the left alongside the building, the right enclosed in the front building). The central corridor ran through to the rear building, where there were also rooms on both sides. On the first floor the corridor is likewise the structuring element; however it does not run through the entire rear building. The floors are accessed by means of a staircase in the front building (accessible via a later built corridor on the right) and a staircase in the rear building. The roof trusses contain both undivided spaces. The building is partially cellared.

The interior contains various historical elements such as moulded wooden door surrounds, stove recesses, stucco ceilings, cupboards and painted floors and (in the rear building) a painted staircase. The historical beam layers are still present as far as can be observed.

Valuation

House 'Het Witte Laecken', known since the sixteenth century but in its present form dating from the first quarter of the nineteenth century, is of general importance because of:

- the building type, consisting of front and rear buildings connected by a central corridor; this building type is relatively rare;

- the integrity of the particular main layout and of the main facades; the distinction between front and rear facade in terms of material use; the well-preserved shop front of (around) 1905;

- the values of the construction and interior (both the structure and the partly preserved historical finishes);

- the preserved historical windows, including sash windows with characteristic and rarely occurring Empire decoration.
