BEGRAAFPLAATSHEK uit 1860, onderdeel van het complex Algemene Begraafplaats Alkmaar.
Omschrijving
Het circa 2,40 meter hoge hek dat het poortgebouw over een afstand van 60 meter verbindt met de twee dienstwoningen is samengesteld uit witgepleisterde pijlers op een onderlinge afstand van 10 meter, waartussen een lage witgepleisterde bakstenen voeting met een hardstenen bovenrand. De ongeveer 2,60 meter hoge vierkante pijlers zijn voorzien van een hardstenen deksteen in de vorm van een flauwhellend tentdak. Het gietijzeren hek bestaat uit zware, op de voeting rustende spijlen in de vorm van een omgekeerde toorts. De spijlen worden onderaan met elkaar verbonden door een smeedijzeren staaf en bovenin door een omcirkeld eikenblad. Het hekdeel tussen twee pijlers wordt door twee zwaardere hoofdspijlen in drieën onderverdeeld. De hoofdspijlen hebben de vorm van een gecanneleerde en door een granaatappel bekroonde zuil voorzien van een kapiteel met bladmotief.

Description
The approximately 2.40 metre high fence which connects the gate building over a distance of 60 metres with the two service dwellings is composed of whitewashed pillars at a mutual distance of 10 metres, between which a low whitewashed brick base with a hardstone upper edge. The approximately 2.60 metre high square pillars are provided with a hardstone coping stone in the form of a gently sloping tent roof. The cast-iron fence consists of heavy bars resting on the base in the form of an inverted torch. The bars are connected at the bottom with each other by a wrought-iron rod and at the top by an encircled oak leaf. The fence section between two pillars is subdivided into three by two heavier main bars. The main bars have the form of a fluted column topped by a pomegranate provided with a capital with leaf motif.
Valuation
The burial ground fence is of general importance for its cultural and architectural-historical value as a historically-functional component of the General Cemetery Alkmaar complex.
