The RESIDENTIAL HOUSE, presumably built around 1877, is named after the country estate "Schoonoord" that once stood here. The detached house on the Oosteinde is built in the Eclecticism style.

Description

From an almost square floor plan, a brick residential house with a basement, piano nobile and attic storey under a hipped composite roof (with Cologne gutter) covered with smothered Dutch tiles. The roof slope is intersected on the front and rear by a roof dormer with a sash window, flanked on the front facade by double Doric pilasters and on the rear by single pilasters. The symmetrical front facade is five bays wide. The basement is executed as a plastered plinth with blind joints and rectangular windows with casement frames and is closed off by a projecting moulding. Furthermore, the facade is of fair-faced brickwork, provided with cemented striping courses and setting stones around the sash windows. The arched spans above the windows are set with cemented and worked setting and closing stones. In the coloured leaded glass fanlights are oval medallions with burnt-on painted landscape vignettes (including mills). In the centre is the entrance with recessed porte brisée. The richly worked front door has two panes with wrought-iron grille in front, two oeil-de-boeufs and a fanlight with leaded glass and a medallion. The entrance is closed at the top with a projecting moulding, richly worked consoles, a 'portico motif' with bracketing pieces and pediment. The facade is closed off by a cornice in which the name 'Schoonoord' is applied on the central axis in painted lettering. The plinth, cemented parts and cornice are painted white. In front of the entrance is a new ashlar step with the original wrought-iron gate.

In the right side facade, among other things, wall anchors, cast-iron ventilation grilles and two straight closed windows with sash windows. The left side facade has, among other things, a door to the basement, a cellar window with theft irons, three sash windows and wall anchors. The relieving arches above the windows are slightly arched.

INTERIOR. In the virtually intact interior - with an almost symmetrically arranged floor plan - are found among other things panelled doors with original hinges and latches, coloured leaded glass fanlights and moulded architraves. To the left and right of the centrally located hall on the piano nobile are three rooms containing, among other things, stucco ceilings, board floors and marble mantels with eclectic detailing. In the entrance vestibule and in the hall are also stucco ceilings and among other things, tiled wainscoting with floral motifs executed in stencil and decalcomania technique. The panes of the draught screen, side lights and fanlights are executed in multicoloured leaded glass. On the piano nobile an intermediate room was converted into various smaller rooms, including a bathroom. The kitchen (rear right) dates from the nineteen-thirties and contains among other things a granito floor, tiled walls (approximately two metres high), granito worktop and kitchen cabinets. In the basement, among other things granito floors, a provisions room with original wine racks, black and yellow-black tile floors, an original water reservoir with boarding and doors with iron hinges and wooden latches.

Beneath the composite roof a spacious attic storey almost symmetrically subdivided into many compartments.
