Description
Introduction
CHURCH with adjoining somewhat elevated churchyard, yellow-brick perimeter wall and access path, grave monuments and monumental beech planting.
Description
Single-aisle village church of which the tufa-stone clad nave originated in the 12th century, the choir younger, closure 16th century; 17th-century tower. In the church a sandstone baptismal font 14th century, pulpit and gallery for gentlemen 17th century, two chandeliers 17th century, grave slab 17th century. The organ case and front pipes were made by J.C. Scheuer in 1858. A new interior mechanism was installed in 1919 by the firm P. van Dam. This instrument contains pipework from the former organ from Warga, which was made in 1787 by A. van Gruisen. Mechanical tower clock by Van Bergen, first quarter 20th century, later fitted with a synchronous motor. Church and churchyard are accessible via a yellow-brick path. On the elevated churchyard, which is surrounded by a yellow-brick perimeter wall with buttresses and saddle backs, there still lie three 17th-century and two 19th-century grave slabs. Also located there is the grave vault of the Prins family (not dated; 19th-century). Otherwise the character of the churchyard is determined by around twenty 19th-century and a couple of early 20th-century standing grave monuments, executed in grey stone with blackened lettering and decorations. Also on the burial ground stand four low black-glass 20th-century grave plaques with sunken text. The churchyard is bordered (on the inside and outside) by a partly single, partly double ring of monumental green beeches.
Valuation
CHURCH with churchyard, perimeter wall and access path, grave monuments and monumental beech planting is of general importance:
- on account of the age of the constituent elements;
- on account of the origins and usage history of the building and site;

- on account of the (local) genealogical and funerary-historical significance;
- on account of the harmonious site arrangement and the presence of characteristic grave monuments;
- as an intact ecclesiastical ensemble situated on the village green of the regional village of Oldeberkoop.
