Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
DOCTOR'S HOUSE in a series of four dwellings for physicians of the St. Annagesticht, situated along the former access lane of the premises. The dwellings, presumed to have been built to a design by Jos Haché between 1907 and 1911 in the style of eclecticism, display influences from the Renaissance and chalet style. The residential houses nos. 1 and 2 are executed somewhat more soberly within the series. Residential house no. 2 is surrounded by a simple ornamental garden. The building was presumed to have been altered internally in the nineteen-thirties and again in the third quarter of the twentieth century, mainly regarding windows and interior finishes. At the rear the original extension under gabled roof has been replaced by a larger flat-roofed extension whereby a portion of the original facade infilling has been retained. The detached garage is not included in the protection.
Description.
Detached, essentially block-shaped residential house with a northern projecting section crowned with a stepped gable. The building is two storeys and an attic storey high beneath a composite roof consisting of a gabled roof and a hipped roof. At the rear there is a single-storey extension.
The facades are built in brick in stretcher bond and possess the general characteristics as described in the complex description (monument number 5638121). The windows are all renewed in the second half of the twentieth century within the existing facade openings.
The front facade consists on the left of a slightly projecting section with stepped gable. Within this is located in the right axis the entrance with a door from the nineteen-thirties. The stepped gable is provided with curling ornamental wall anchors and is crowned by a mortared top pilaster on a sandstone corbel. The facade further contains mainly windows with segmental-arched arch rings as described.
The right side facade has on the left a three-sided flat-roofed bay, which was originally closed off with a hipped roof. Currently a balcony is located on the bay. In the second storey the window has been replaced by a balcony door. The facade further has windows as described within the original facade openings.
The left side facade has approximately in the middle a projecting staircase, which was originally lower. In this extension toilets are located. The side facade of the partially original rear extension has a regular arrangement with windows and doors.
The rear facade ends on the right in a gable with stepped gable. The first storey contains a built-out kitchen. This extension was originally smaller and closed off with a gabled roof. On the left in the first storey are renewed garden doors within an original facade opening. In the interior the original three-aisle main layout has been largely preserved. The interior finish of the dwelling was presumed to have been altered in the nineteen-thirties and again in the second half of the twentieth century. In the cellar original doors and a tile floor remain.
Valuation.
Doctor's house of the St. Annagesticht of general, cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance as an essential and original component of the psychiatric institution which was built at the beginning of the twentieth century according to the pavilion system. The residential house is of typological value within the complex because housing for physicians on the institution's own premises is a recognizable component of psychiatric institutions in this period. The dwelling has architectural-historical value because of the picturesque eclectic building style characteristic of the institution and building period. The residential house has ensemble values because of its situation within a series of comparable and visually distinctive doctor's houses along the access lane to the institution.
