Omschrijving
Inleiding.

Description
Introduction.
DOCTOR'S HOUSE in a series of four dwellings for physicians of the St. Annagesticht, situated along the former access lane of the premises. The dwellings, presumed to have been built to a design by Jos Haché between 1907 and 1911 in the style of eclecticism, display influences from the Renaissance and chalet style. The residential houses nos. 1 and 2 are executed somewhat more soberly within the series. Residential house no. 1 is surrounded by a simple ornamental garden. The building was presumed to have been altered internally in the nineteen-thirties and again in the third quarter of the twentieth century, mainly regarding windows and interior finishes. The garage at the north facade falls outside the protection.
Description.
Detached, essentially block-shaped residential house with various projecting sections including a northwestern tower-like bay. The building is two storeys and an attic storey high beneath a composite roof consisting of hipped and gabled roof sections. The northwestern bay is closed off with a slate-covered truncated tent roof topped by a lantern and dome roof, crowned with a fleuron.
The facades possess the general characteristics as described in the complex description (monument number 5638121). The rectangular or round-arched wooden windows are all renewed within the original facade openings and have surrounds and closures as described.
The front facade has on the right a projecting section ending in a stepped gable with decorated end rafter. This end rafter is provided with a trefoil arch and sawn-out filler pieces. The first storey of the projecting section contains a rectangular bay, at the top is a small round-arched window. In the narrow recessed central section is the main entrance with a door from the nineteen-thirties. To the left of the door an associated ceramic letterbox. The left part of the front facade consists of the aforementioned three-sided projecting bay. This bay is closed off under the eaves with a gutter frieze executed in yellow facing brick in decorative bond.
The right side facade has on the left presumed later-added double garden doors. The side facade further has an original arrangement with windows as described.
The left side facade has to the left of the tower an extension over the full height of the facade. On this extension the stair landings emerge and toilets are located. The projecting section is closed off with a stepped gable provided with a corbelled overhanging roof on worked corbels. The facade further has windows as described. The sober rear facade has on the left a projecting section ending in a stepped gable with an end rafter provided with a trefoil arch. The facade further has windows as described under lintels and segmental arches.
In the interior the original three-aisle main layout of the house has been more or less preserved, but the interior has been altered regarding finishes. Characteristic is the wooden return staircase which presumably dates from the second quarter of the twentieth century.
Valuation.
The doctor's house of the St. Annagesticht is of general, cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance as an essential and original component of the psychiatric institution which was built at the beginning of the twentieth century according to the pavilion system. The residential house is of typological value within the complex because housing for physicians on the institution's own premises is a recognizable component of psychiatric institutions in this period. The dwelling has architectural-historical value because of the picturesque eclectic building style characteristic of the institution and building period. The residential house has ensemble values because of its situation within a series of comparable and visually distinctive doctor's houses along the access lane to the institution.
