Omschrijving

Description

A FARMHOUSE erected on a rectangular ground plan with a transverse front wing. The building was constructed in 1927 on behalf of baron Van Verschuer (Lord of Leur) according to a traditional design with Gelderse elements by architect J.W. Francken from Andelst. The brick FACADES are laid in English bond and are finished at the top by combined block and tooth mouldings. The north and east facades are provided with a cemented plinth. The ROOF consists of two gabled roofs at right angles to each other with equal ridge heights. The roof is covered with red improved Dutch tiles and drains without gutters (on the east side at the location of the business section a non-original PVC gutter has been attached). The gabled roof of the front wing is placed between stepped gables and has the ridge parallel to the front facade. Two chimneys are placed on the ridge. The gabled roof of the business section is half-hipped at the rear. The facades of the FRONT WING have a regular and symmetrical arrangement. The front wing has one storey and a high roof space with attic storey and loft. The recessed rectangular gable openings in the front wing are closed by simple or coupled blind relieving arches. The spandrels are filled with brickwork in English bond. The windows in the left and right side facades are of the type wooden cross windows with shutters for the lower windows. The storey and loft are marked in the stepped gables by tooth mouldings. The left side facade is finished by a multiple stepped-in and stepped-out gable top with constructed straight 'pinnacles'. At the height of the loft six pigeon holes have been made in this facade as well as a memorial stone with the inscription: "'T HOF / 1927". The right side facade has on the ground floor a modified extension with entrance as well as a modified kitchen window above a two-part basement window. The gable top with brick lattice is finished by a roll course and crowned by a spout gable. The arrangement of the front facade consists of a simple entrance between two windows. These windows form a variant on the cross windows in the side facades, as they have an extra fanlight on either side (the total width of the fanlights corresponds with the width of the lower windows including the shutters in open position). The simple entrance consists of a wooden door under a fanlight.

The recesses in the facades of the BUSINESS SECTION are predominantly closed with segmental arches. In the side facades these are mainly a series of stable windows (renewed six-paned examples in concrete). The symmetrically arranged rear facade has in the centre a high basket arch-shaped entrance door with strapped double door, and on either side thereof a stable window and a toothed manure door. At the height of the hay loft there are two oculi. The SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT of the front wing consists of a broad central passage up to the party wall with in the flanking aisles each two rooms. The higher situated kitchen at the right rear is situated above the cellar. The business section consists of a middle longitudinal part with former cow stalls on either side (now storage with concrete floor). The timber construction consists of four sawn roof trusses on which are collar tie trusses.

Valuation

FARMHOUSE from 1927.

- Of architectural-historical value as a typologically good example of a large farmhouse with middle longitudinal section and transverse front wing from 1927, in which the design is based on a reorientation towards traditional Gelderse building. With the exception of a stepped-in and stepped-out gable top, the design can be called sober. The farmhouse has been preserved reasonably well in terms of principal form, facade and interior arrangement. The detailing is careful. The farmhouse is of significance for the oeuvre of architect J.W. Francken from Andelst.

- Of urban planning value as an essential component of a farmhouse complex, which as an ensemble is of significance because of the high-quality nature of the constituent parts and the historical-spatial relationship with landscaping, roads, waters and soil conditions. The farmhouse is located in the village view Leur protected by the municipality. - Of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural, socio-economic, landscape and administrative development; in this case being part of the old lordship Leur which to this day still has many old ownership and management lines.
