Inleiding
TOEGANGSHEK naar het landgoed De Hoge Veluwe, in 1920 ontworpen door A.J. Kropholler. Het hek vormt een noordoostelijke toegang tot het park en ligt aan de Houtkampweg in Hoenderloo.
Vanaf 1909 ontstond het landgoed De Hoge Veluwe door het opkopen en samenvoegen van gronden door het Rotterdamse fabrikantenechtpaar Helene Müller (1869-1939) en Anthony G. Kröller (1862-1941). De oude openbare wegen die over de gronden liepen werden afgesloten en op kosten van Kröller omgeleid. Om het nieuw ontstane, ruim 6800 ha grote landgoed kwam een afrastering. Deze door het echtpaar gecre%erde nieuwe buitenplaats fungeerde in de eerste plaats als jachtgebied en buitenverblijf voor de familie en hun gasten. Op het landgoed werd tevens een boerenbedrijf gevoerd. Daarnaast werd binnen De Hoge Veluwe het kunstzinnig ideaal verwezenlijkt dat Helene Müller voor ogen stond. Het terrein werd in haar opdracht ingericht met architectuur en kunstwerken, die allen op hun eigen manier de door haar voorgestane eenheid van kunst en natuur zichtbaar moesten maken. Tenslotte moest op het terrein een groot museumgebouw gerealiseerd worden, om de kunstcollectie van mevr. Kröller te huisvesten.
Ten behoeve van het inrichten van het landgoed wist het echtpaar verschillende architecten aan zich te binden. Van H.P. BERLAGE, de Belg HENRY VAN DE VELDE en van A.J. KROPHOLLER werden daadwerkelijk gebouwen op het landgoed uitgevoerd. De in het complex op te nemen beeldhouwwerken zijn van de hand van de beeldhouwers J. MENDES DA COSTA en JOHN RAEDECKER.
Na de economische crisis werd in 1928 het beheer van het landgoed overgedragen aan de Stichting Kroller-Muller. In 1935 ontstond de Stichting Het Nationale Park de Hoge Veluwe.
Het landgoed wordt begrensd door een kilometerslange afrastering, met monumentale TOEGANGSHEKKEN op belangrijke plaatsen. De toegangshekken zijn allen vergelijkbaar vormgegeven, met kleine varianten, naar ontwerpen van Kropholler uit 1920. Naast het bijeenhouden van wild waren de hekken en afrastering er een uitdrukking van dat het echtpaar hun verworven gebied als een eenheid zag en zichzelf als grootgrondbezitters. Er waren plannen om bij de entrees kleine nederzettingen te realiseren. Hoewel dit nauwelijks tot stand is gekomen, is een dergelijke opzet wel in aanzet aanwezig bij de entree aan de Harskampweg en bij de dienstingang aan de Apeldoornseweg.
Omschrijving
TOEGANGSHEKWERK bestaande uit een inrijhek en twee vaste hekken aan weerszijden. Het inrijhek bestaat uit twee draaihekken tussen vierkante pijlers in baksteen (kruisverband) gemetseld en afgedekt met Maulbronner zandsteen zonder opschrift. De draaihekken bestaan uit smalle, uitstekende ijzeren stijlen met lagere vleugels. De stijlen zijn decoratief uitgewerkt en zitten met banden aan de bakstenen pijlers vast. De vleugels zijn sober, samengesteld uit vertikale en diagonale spijlen. Aan de pijlers zitten beschermijzers.
Aan weerszijden bevindt zich een iets lagere pijler met een vast hek ertussen. Het hek bestaat uit vertikale spijlen op op een gemetseld muurtje. De smeedijzeren hekwerken zijn groen geschilderd.
