Omschrijving
ARTILLERIEKAZERNE 'Van Essen' (4) met H-vormige plattegrond bestaande uit twee bouwlagen met uitzondering van het éénlaags middendeel. De gevels opgetrokken in roodbruine baksteen in kruisverband worden afgesloten door een overstekend zadeldak met aangekapte zadeldaken gedekt met gesmoorde kruispannen. De bakgoot wordt ondersteund door geprofileerde korbeelstellen met in de topgevel een eenvoudig, geprofileerd sierspant met makelaar. In de gevels bevinden zich grotendeels negen-ruits ramen met zes-ruits valramen als bovenlicht. De vensters zijn per twee of drie gekoppeld onder één segmentboog met bakstenen boogtrommel en natuurstenen latei. Ter hoogte van de lekdorpels van de vensters op de begane grond en de verdieping bevinden zich hardstenen speklagen in de gevel. Natuursteen is vervolgens nog gebruikt voor het benadrukken van de wisseldorpels en de omlijsting van de hoofdentree. In de natuurstenen sluitsteen boven de entree bevindt zich in relief het jaartal '1908' met daarboven op een natuurstenen plaquette de naam 'VAN ESSENKAZERNE' .
De VOORGEVEL bestaat uit de voorgevel van het verbindingslid tussen de twee zijvleugels met links en rechts de kopse gevel van de vleugels. Centraal in de gevel van het verbindingslid bevindt zich de ingangspartij in de licht risalerende middenas met topgevel en aangekapt achterliggend zadeldak. De middenas wordt aan weerszijden geflankeerd door een natuurstenen hoekliseen. Op de begane grond bevindt zich de entree bestaande uit een dubbele, rechthoekige paneeldeur door een natuurstenen kalf gescheiden van het halfronde meerruits bovenlicht met natuurstenen omlijsting. In de sluitsteen bevindt zich in relief het jaartal '1908' met daarboven een plaquette met het opschrift 'VAN ESSENKAZERNE'. De plaquette wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een waterlijst die doorloopt over de breedte van de middenas. In de geveltop bevindt zich een vensterpartij bestaande uit twee negen-ruits ramen met zes-ruits bovenlicht aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een natuurstenen latei geplaatst in een natuurstenen rondboog. In de boogtrommel van de rondboog wordt elk venster afgesloten door een afzonderlijke, halfronde rollaag. Aan weerszijden van de middenas bevinden zich drie maal twee naast elkaar geplaatste vensters aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een natuurstenen latei onder één segmentboog met in het dakvlak een dakkapel. Het verbindingslid is gekoppeld aan de zijvleugels door middel van een lage, ondiepe verbindingsgang afgesloten door een flauw hellend zadeldak. In de gevel van deze gang bevinden zich drie paren vensters. De kopse gevels van de zijvleugels zijn grotendeels blinde gevels met natuurstenen banden met inde geveltop twee vensters.
De LINKERZIJGEVEL bestaat uit de langsgevel van de zijvleugel te verdelen in een verhoogde middentravee, een lage linkertravee en een hoge rechtertravee. De middentravee bestaat uit twee bouwlagen en een mezzanino afgesloten door een zadeldak met aangekapt zadeldak ter afsluiting van de twee identieke, centrale assen. In de centrale as bevinden zich in iedere bouwlaag twee vensters onder één segmentboog. Op de begane grond en de verdieping van de as uiterst links bevinden zich vier kleine vier-ruits vensteropeningen. Onder het dakvlak bevinden zich twee vier-ruits ramen. Uiterst rechts bevinden zich op de begane grond en de verdieping twee vensters onder één latei met onder het dakvlak twee vier-ruits ramen. In de linkertravee bevinden zich op de begane grond en de verdieping vier maal drie vensters onder één latei. De ACHTERGEVEL bestaat uit de achtergevel van een uitbouw van het verbindingslid met plat dak en de verbindingsgang met links en rechts de kopse gevels van de zijvleugels. Centraal in de gevel van het verbindingslid bevindt zich een rechthoekige, dubbele paneeldeur met twee gekoppelde vier-ruits bovenlichten. Links van de entree bevinden zich drie gekoppelde vensters, rechts een driedelig en een gekoppeld venster. Links en rechts van het verbindingslid bevindt zich de gevel van de gang met een aanbouw afgesloten door een plat dak. Uiterst links en rechts bevinden zich in deze gevels enkele vensters. De grotendeels blinde kopse gevels van de zijvleugels zijn elkaars spiegelbeeld met horizontale, natuurstenen banden.
De RECHTERZIJGEVEL is identiek aan de linkerzijgevel.
Het INTERIEUR is grotendeels niet meer in oorspronkelijke staat met uitzondering van de trappartijen.

ARTILLERIEKAZERNE 'Van Essen' gebouwd in 1906-1908 in chaletstijl als onderdeel van de kazerneterrein Ede-West.

Description
ARTILLERY BARRACKS 'Van Essen' (4) with H-shaped floor plan consisting of two storeys with the exception of the single-storey central section. In the facades are mostly nine-pane windows with six-pane sash windows as fanlights. The windows are coupled in pairs or threes under one segmental arch with brick arch drum and natural stone lintel. At the height of the drip moulds of the windows on the ground floor and first floor are hardstone string courses in the facade. Natural stone is furthermore used to emphasise the alternating courses and the framing of the main entrance. In the natural stone keystone above the entrance is the year '1908' in relief with above it on a natural stone plaque the name 'VAN ESSENKAZERNE'.
The FRONT FACADE consists of the front facade of the connecting section between the two side wings with on the left and right the gable end of the wings. The connecting section is coupled to the side wings by means of a low, shallow connecting passage finished by a gently sloping gabled roof. In the facade of this passage are three pairs of windows. The gable ends of the side wings are mostly blind facades with natural stone bands with in the gable top two windows.
The LEFT SIDE FACADE consists of the long facade of the side wing divided into a raised central bay, a low left bay and a high right bay. The central bay consists of two storeys and a mezzanine finished by a gabled roof with hipped saddle roof for the finish of the two identical, central axes. In the central axis are in each storey two windows under one segmental arch. On the ground floor and first floor of the axis at the far left are four small four-pane window openings. Below the roof plane are two four-pane windows. At the far right on the ground floor and first floor are two windows under one lintel with below the roof plane two four-pane windows. In the left bay are on the ground floor and first floor four times three windows under one lintel. The REAR FACADE consists of the rear facade of an extension of the connecting section with flat roof and the connecting passage with on the left and right the gable ends of the side wings. Centrally in the facade of the connecting section is a rectangular, double panel door with two coupled four-pane fanlights. To the left of the entrance are three coupled windows, to the right a tripartite and a coupled window. To the left and right of the connecting section is the facade of the passage with an outbuilding finished by a flat roof. At the far left and right are in these facades a few windows. The mostly blind gable ends of the side wings are mirror images of each other with horizontal, natural stone bands.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE is identical to the left side facade.
The INTERIOR is largely no longer in original condition with the exception of the stairways.
