Inleiding
SCHAAPSKOOI uit 1862. De kooi bevindt zich in het agrarische buitengebied ten noorden van de dorpskern Scherpenzeel, en is vrij in het veld gesitueerd op enige afstand van de boerderij Oud Willaer. De historische relatie tussen onderhavige kooi en genoemde boerderij is onzeker. In de negentiende eeuw heeft de kooi te midden van uitgestrekte heidevelden gestaan. Vanaf circa 1900 is dit gebied ontgonnen. Op de kooi sluit nog een brede strook grasland aan met aan weerszijden een houtwal. Mogelijk is dit een dreef geweest.
Omschrijving
SCHAAPSKOOI op rechthoekig grondplan met gepotdekselde wanden op een bakstenen plint. De deels gerestaureerde plint is in kruisverband gemetseld en wordt afgesloten door een rollaag. De houten wanden bestaan uit (vernieuwde) wandstijlen met aan de buitenzijde een horizontale beschieting van gepotdekselde delen. In het midden van beide kopse zijden bevindt zich een opgeklampte dubbele deur. Aan één zijde is tevens een opgeklampt zolderluik aangebracht. Het afgewolfde zadeldak is gedekt met rode oud-Hollandse pannen, watert af zonder goten en is voorzien van windveren. Aan de bovenzijde van het dak is een strook met riet gedekt. In een dakschild is met gesmoorde pannen het bouwjaar "1862" aangegeven.
De inwendige draagconstructie bestaat uit vier gehakte dekbalkgebinten waarop schaarspanten met overgekeepte balken van rondhout. De gebintstijlen zijn geplaatst op gemetselde poeren. Eén gebint maakt onderdeel uit van de buitenwand. De overige staan vrij in de ruimte. De vloer is van leem. De voor schaapskooien karakteristieke afgeschuinde hoeken bevinden zich bij deze kooi aan de binnenzijde. Losse schotten voor de hoeken zorgen ervoor dat schapen niet worden doodgedrukt.
Waardering
SCHAAPSKOOI uit 1862.
- Van architectuurhistorische waarde als typologisch goed en voor Gelderland zeldzaam voorbeeld van een houten schaapskooi op rechthoekig grondplan met inwendig afgeschuinde hoeken en dekbalkgebinten.

SHEEP DIPPING FACILITY from 1862. The facility is located in the agricultural rural area north of the village centre of Scherpenzeel, and is situated freely in the field at some distance from the farmhouse Oud Willaer. The historical relationship between the present facility and the named farmhouse is uncertain. In the nineteenth century the facility stood in the midst of extensive heathlands. From around 1900 this area was developed. Adjacent to the facility is still a wide strip of grassland with on both sides a tree belt. This may possibly have been a tree-lined avenue.
Description
SHEEP DIPPING FACILITY on rectangular ground plan with potted roof-tile covered walls on a brick plinth. The partly restored plinth is laid in English bond and is closed by a roll course. The wooden walls consist of (renewed) wall posts with on the outside a horizontal boarding of potted roof-tile covered parts. In the middle of both gable ends is a clamped double door. On one side a clamped hayloft opening is also applied. The mansard gabled roof is covered with red old-Dutch tiles, drains without gutters and is provided with wind braces. At the top of the roof is a strip covered with reed. In a roof slope the construction year "1862" is indicated with smothered tiles.
The internal load-bearing structure consists of four hewn tie beam trusses on which scissor trusses with overlapped beams of round timber. The truss posts are placed on mortared piers. One truss forms part of the external wall. The others stand freely in the space. The floor is of clay. The characteristic bevelled corners for sheep dipping facilities are located at this facility on the inside. Loose partitions for the corners ensure that sheep are not crushed.
