Inleiding
Deze zogenaamde Amerikaanse WINDMOTOR is gelegen aan de noordzijde van de Munnikenlandse Waalkade, buitendijks.
In het begin van deze eeuw was de windmotor enorm in opkomst en vormden vooral de grote molens een bedreiging voor de honderden traditionele molens. In die tijd werden ze dan ook spoedig `schrikmolens'genoemd. De eerste windmotoren kwamen uit Amerika, maar al spoedig bleken zij niet bestand tegen het ruwere weer dat hier blijkbaar heerst. In Europa ging men daarom spoedig over tot het produceren van eigen, meer solide windmotoren. De naam `Amerikaan' of Amerikaanse windmotor is blijven bestaan, hoewel 99 procent van de hier aanwezige windmotoren helemaal niet uit Amerika kwam.
Omschrijving
De windmotor, een metalen molen voor het op peil houden van de waterstand in het Munnikenland, bestaat uit een metalen vakwerk mast, beëindigd met een rad met vier vanen en twee windrichters, één horizontaal en één verticaal.
Waardering
- Van architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een functionele en typologische ontwikkeling. Tevens vanwege een constructiewijze, die vernieuwend is voor de tijd van ontstaan.
- Van stedebouwkundige waarde als onderdeel van een historisch gegroeid landschappelijk gebied en waarin het een beeldbepalende rol speelt. This so-called American WINDMILL MOTOR is located on the north side of the Munnikenlandse Waalkade, outside the dike.
At the beginning of this century the windmill motor was enormously on the rise and especially the large mills posed a threat to the hundreds of traditional mills.
