Omschrijving
MANSCHAPPENGEBOUW B-6, deel uitmakend van het KAZERNECOMPLEX het BURMANIAKAMP. Gebouwd op een winkelhaakvormige plattegrond en een bouwlaag met een samengestelde, flauwe schildkap hoog.
Op een iets terugwijkend trasraam van enkele metsellagen zijn massieve, 55 cm dikke muren opgetrokken van gemêleerde roodbruine baksteen. Na de ruim een meter hoge borstwering volgen de vensterpartijen, gevat in een vakwerk-motief van kunststeen waarin het metselwerk is verlevendigd door uitspringende koppen van gesinterde baksteen in verschillende patronen. Het daglicht valt binnen door hooggeplaatste vensterpartijen die uit twee of drie twaalfruitsramen of uit twee zesruitsramen zijn samengesteld. Deels kunnen ze als tuimelraam worden geopend. In de iets uitspringende hoekpartij is onder de kap de tot een portiek gevormde, terugliggende ingangspartij gelegen. De hoeken bezitten versieringen van kunststenen 'stijlen'; de bakgoten worden hier ondersteund door console-achtige uitkragingen. Het gebouw kreeg een samengesteld schilddak met een flauwe en licht geknikte helling en een flinke overstek. De daken zijn gedekt met gemêleerde, roodbruin geglazuurde, verbeterde Hollandse golfpannen. Op de daken staan hoekschoorstenen en kapellen onder afzaatdakjes. Alle daklichten zijn loos: de kapruimten kunnen door de gesloten betonnen vloeren uitsluitend als opslag worden benut.
Het gebouw heeft een indeling van slaapvertrekken en sanitaire ruimte van wisselende vorm en afmeting aan een ontsluitende gang tegen de buitenmuren van de binnenhoek van de vleugels. De binnendeuren naar de vertrekken en sanitaire voorzieningen bezitten zware en meervoudig geprofileerde, houten architraven. Over de eerste bouwlaag is een geheel gesloten zoldervloer van beton gelegd ter bescherming tegen inslaande granaten. De daardoor alleen voor opslag toegankelijke zolder heeft een geheel houten kapconstructie.
WAARDERING
Het manschappengebouw B-6 is van groot algemeen historisch, stedenbouwkundig en architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege
- de tastbare en nauwelijks verstoorde geschiedenis van de bezettingstijd 1940-'45 die het gebouw in zijn samenhang met de andere gebouwen van het complex uitdrukt;
- de kenmerkende en nagenoeg gave architectuur, onder meer met vakwerkwanden, die overeenkomt met de architectuur van de Noordduitse laagvlakte;
- de levendige ruimtelijke situering en geleding van het manschappengebouw dat op camouflage-gronden als element in een tuinwijkje van groene beplanting is geplaatst.

ENLISTED MEN'S BUILDING B-6, forming part of the BARRACKS COMPLEX the BURMANIAKAMP. Built on an L-shaped ground plan and one storey high with a composite shallow hipped roof.
On a slightly recessed brick base of several courses, massive walls 55 cm thick have been constructed of mixed reddish-brown brick. After the parapet wall approximately one metre high, window sections follow, set in a timber-framing motif of artificial stone in which the brickwork is enlivened by projecting heads of sintered brick in various patterns. Daylight enters through high-positioned window sections consisting of two or three twelve-pane windows or two six-pane windows. Some can be opened as tilt windows. In the slightly projecting corner section, beneath the roof, is the recessed entrance section formed as a portico. The corners have ornamental artificial stone 'pilasters'; the gutters are supported here by console-like brackets. The building has a composite hipped roof with a shallow and slightly bent slope and a generous overhang. The roofs are covered with mixed, reddish-brown glazed, improved Dutch interlocking tiles. The roofs have corner chimneys and roof lights under small shed roofs. All roof lights are dummy: the roof spaces can only be used for storage due to the closed concrete floors.
The building has a layout of sleeping quarters and sanitary space of varying shape and size along an access corridor against the outer walls of the inner corner of the wings. Heavy and multiply profiled wooden architraves border the interior doors to the rooms and sanitary facilities. Over the first storey, a completely closed concrete floor has been laid as protection against incoming shrapnel. The attic, accessible only for storage due to this, has an entirely wooden roof truss structure.
VALUATION
The enlisted men's building B-6 is of great general historical, urban planning and architectural historical importance because of
- the tangible and scarcely disturbed history of the occupation period 1940-'45 which the building expresses in its coherence with the other buildings of the complex;
- the characteristic and nearly intact architecture, including timber-framing walls, which corresponds with the architecture of the North German lowlands;
- the lively spatial arrangement and articulation of the enlisted men's building which is situated, for camouflage reasons, as an element in a garden suburb of green planting.
