Inleiding
Aan de Vluchtheuvelstraat op de dijk gelegen bakstenen DIJKMAGAZIJN in Waterstaatsstijl uit het derde kwart van de 19de eeuw. Qua situering nog gaaf. Het magazijn ligt aan de buitenzijde van de dijk en was bestemd voor onderhouds- en versterkingsmateriaal. Het behoort tot het oudste type dat in het Land van Maas en Waal voorkomt. Indentieke dijkmagazijnen staan aan de Kerkdijk in Alphen aan de Maas en aan de Waalbandijk te Afferden (gemeente Druten).
Omschrijving
Het in baksteen, op rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken bouwwerk bestaat uit twee bouwlagen onder met grijze oudhollandse pannen gedekt zadeldak met de nok evenwijdig aan de weg. Het overstekende dak wordt langs de zijgevels gesteund door houten schoren en bezit geprofileerde windveren aan de kopgevels. De KOPGEVELS zijn identiek: zowel op de begane grond als de verdieping hier een dubbele opgeklampte laaddeur, waarvan de bovenste een halfrond bovenlicht bezit. De bovenlichten zijn verschillend getraceerd. De deuren zijn geflankeerd door gepleisterde platstukken, op de begane grond met hardstenen basement. De benedendorpel van de deuren op de verdieping is uitgevoerd als kroonlijst, terwijl de gepleisterde kroonlijst aan de bovenzijde om het bovenlicht is getrokken en ter hoogte van de hoeklisenen gekornist. Hardstenen dorpels en omgaande waterlijst op verdiepingshoogte.
De ZIJGEVELS worden op de begane grond en verdieping geleed door rechthoekige verdiepte velden. In deze spaarvelden zijn ventilatiespleten met hardstenen kozijnen aangebracht.

Brick DIKE MAGAZINE in Waterstaatsstijl on the Vluchtheuvelstraat on the dike from the third quarter of the 19th century. Still intact as to location. The magazine is situated on the outer side of the dike and was intended for maintenance and reinforcement materials. It belongs to the oldest type found in the Land van Maas en Waal. Identical dike magazines stand at the Kerkdijk in Alphen aan de Maas and at the Waalbandijk in Afferden (municipality Druten).
Description
The brick structure, erected on a rectangular ground plan, consists of two storeys under a gabled roof covered with grey old Dutch tiles with the ridge parallel to the road. The overhanging roof is supported along the side gables by wooden struts and has moulded wind weathering at the gable ends. The GABLE ENDS are identical: both on the ground floor and on the upper storey here a double clamped loading door, the upper one of which has a semicircular fanlight. The fanlights are differently traced. The doors are flanked by plastered reveal stones, on the ground floor with stone basement. The lower threshold of the doors on the upper storey is executed as a cornice, whilst the plastered cornice at the top is drawn around the fanlight and is corniced at the height of the corner strips. Stone thresholds and continuous drip moulding at storey height.
The SIDE GABLES are articulated on the ground floor and upper storey by rectangular recessed fields. In these spanned fields ventilation slits with stone frames are placed.
