Inleiding
WINKEL-WOONHUIS gelegen aan de zuidwestzijde van de Kannenmarkt. Het pand is in 1903 gebouwd naar ontwerp van de Nijmeegse architect J.S. Grandjean op de kelders van een oudere voorganger, waarvan slechts 19 jaar daarvoor de onderpui nog was gewijzigd. De architectuur is beïnvloed door de strakke, geometrische Art Nouveau.
Het pand is gebouwd in opdracht van de `Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij', afdeling `weg en werken', ten behoeve van de huisvesting van een reisbureau en een bestelkantoor. Deze functie is thans nog terug te vinden in de benamingen boven de twee ingangen. De Maatschappij heeft bestaan van 1841 tot 1938, het jaar waarin de Nederlandse Spoorwegen werden opgericht.
Omschrijving
Het in kruisverband gemetselde, bakstenen pand is opgetrokken op rechthoekige grondslag en telt drie bouwlagen onder een met gesmoorde kruis- of bouletpannen gedekt zadeldak met schild aan de voorzijde. Het pand bevat door tongewelven overwelfde kelders, behorend bij een voorganger van het pand.
De VOORGEVEL heeft op de begane grond een houten winkelpui met links een entree met 2-ruits stolpdeur met ongelijk ingedeeld, 15-ruits bovenlicht. Rechts heeft de gevel een entree met deur met glaspaneel en ongelijk ingedeeld, 9-ruits bovenlicht. In het midden bevat de gevel een etalage. Het glas in de bovenlichten en het glaspaneel van de deur rechts hebben gefacetteerd glas. De winkelpui heeft een hardstenen plint en wordt aan weerszijden boven deze plint tot aan de puibalk geflankeerd door muurdammen bekleed met blauw geglazuurde baksteen. Daarboven zetten de muurdammen zich voort in hardstenen opzetstukken. Onder de etalage bevinden zich de plint twee kelderlichten, waarvan het rechter is voorzien van een rooster in siersmeedwerk in Art Nouveau stijl. Boven de pui bevindt zich een tegeltableau met de tekst `Hollandsche Spoorweg', gesigneerd rechtsonder `Joost Thooft & Labouchere / Delft'. Het kozijn van de pui is versierd met snijwerk in Art Nouveau stijl. Boven de linker entree staat in Art Nouveau belettering `bestelgoederen' en boven de rechter entree `reisbureau'. De linker stijl van de etalage bevat in houtsnijwerk ` ' en de rechter stijl `6'. Midden boven de etalage is in snijwerk een gevleugeld treinwiel aangebracht. Verder zijn de bovendorpel en stijlen versierd met snijwerk, deels in een strakke belijning.
De eerste en tweede verdieping bevatten elk drie T-vensters met getoogde, ongelijke ingedeelde 10-ruits bovenlichten. Het dakschild bevat een dakkapel met 4-ruits stolpraam.
De ACHTERGEVEL bevat op zowel de eerste als de tweede verdieping links een tweelichtvenster met twee enkelruits schuifvensters met 6-ruits bovenlichten. In het midden bevindt zich een enkelruits schuifvenster met 4-ruits bovenlicht. Geheel rechts heeft de gevel een enkelruits venster. De geveltop heeft een 4-ruits stolpvenster. De gevel wordt afgesloten met een eenvoudig geprofileerde windveer.
Het INTERIEUR bevat onder meer paneeldeuren met gesneden omlijsting in strakke belijning. Deze strakke belijning komt ook voor op de gedraaide balusters en de gesneden trappaal. Onder de vensters in de voorgevel bevindt zich een lambrizering met panelen.

Winkel/woonhuis uit 1903 van architect J.S. Grandjean in een stijl beïnvloed door de strakke, geometrische Art Nouveau.

SHOP-DWELLING situated on the southwest side of the Kannenmarkt. The building was constructed in 1903 according to a design by Nijmegen architect J.S. Grandjean on the cellars of an older predecessor, of which only the ground floor frontage had been altered 19 years previously. The architecture is influenced by the strict, geometric Art Nouveau.
The building was erected on commission of the 'Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij', department 'weg en werken', for the accommodation of a travel bureau and a dispatch office. Description
The building, built in English bond with brick, is erected on a rectangular ground plan and comprises three storeys beneath a saddle roof covered with muffled cross or bullet tiles with a half-hip at the front. The building contains cellars spanned by barrel vaults, belonging to a predecessor of the building.
The FRONT FACADE has on the ground floor a wooden shop frontage with on the left an entrance with a 2-pane hipped door with unequal glazing division, 15-pane fanlight. On the right the facade has an entrance with a door with glass panel and unequal glazing division, 9-pane fanlight. In the centre the facade contains a shop window. The glass in the fanlights and the glass panel of the door on the right feature faceted glass. The shop frontage has a stone plinth and is flanked on either side above this plinth down to the frontage beam by wall piers clad with blue-glazed brick. Above these, the wall piers continue in stone coping pieces. Below the shop window in the plinth are two cellar lights, the right one of which is provided with a grille in Art Nouveau ornamental metalwork. Above the frontage is a tile tableau with the text 'Hollandsche Spoorweg', signed lower right 'Joost Thooft & Labouchere / Delft'. The frame of the frontage is decorated with carved work in Art Nouveau style. Above the left entrance stands in Art Nouveau lettering 'bestelgoederen' and above the right entrance 'reisbureau'. In the centre is a single-pane sash window with a 4-pane fanlight. On the far right the facade has a single-pane window. The gable top has a 4-pane hipped window. The facade is terminated with a simply moulded wind brace.
The INTERIOR contains among other things panelled doors with carved moulding in strict linear design. This strict linear design also appears on the turned balusters and the carved stair newel. Below the windows in the front facade is wainscoting with panels.
