Inleiding
Bakstenen TRAPAFSLUITING bij de taludtrap naar de Oude Haven uit 1916 naar het ontwerp van W.M. Dudok. De trapafsluiting is gesitueerd op de hoek van de Badhuislaan en de Couperusweg. De trap in de zuidhoek geeft toegang tot de Oude Haven.
Omschrijving
Trapafsluiting in klinkersteen in decoratief metselwerk met veelvuldig gebruik van horizontale en vertikale lijnenpatronen en uitkragend metselwerk. De trapafsluiting bestaat aan de westzijde uit een hoge vierkante pijler met borstwering aan weerszijden en afgesloten door een lage vierkante pijler aan weerszijden. Aan de oostzijde twee borstweringen tussen lage pijlers. De hoge pijler wordt afgesloten door een koperen lantaarn. De bovenzijde van de borstweringen met zeegvorm en centraal gemetselde pilaarvorm. Twee borstweringen met rechte bovenzijde uitgevoerd in de zuidhoek aan de bovenzijde van de trap.
Waardering
De bakstenen trapafsluiting is van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als zeldzaam en gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een trapafsluiting in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School.

Description
Stair balustrade in clinker brick in decorative brickwork with extensive use of horizontal and vertical line patterns and projecting brickwork. The stair balustrade consists on the west side of a high square pier with breastwork on either side and closed off by a low square pier on either side. On the east side two breastworks between low piers. The high pier is topped by a copper lantern. The top of the breastworks with wave form and centrally laid pier shape. Two breastworks with straight top executed in the south corner at the top of the stair.
Valuation
The brick stair balustrade is of general importance on account of its architectural and cultural-historical value as a rare and well-preserved example of a stair balustrade in the style of the Amsterdam School.
