Introduction

COUNTRY HOUSE, built for personal occupancy in 1926 in Gooi country-house style by E.G. Middag. The small country house is image-defining in situation on the corner of the Bussumergrintweg and the Wagnerlaan in the villa district de Trompenberg, while the design was adapted to the height differences in the terrain.

Description

Country house, erected on a butterfly-shaped ground plan of which the rounded south side faces the corner of the Bussumergrintweg and the Wagnerlaan. The country house has a basement, ground floor and storey under a draped thatched roof with roof dormers and chimneys on the ridge on the south side and on the north-west side. The facades are erected in red brick on a plinth with a roll moulding. The wooden windows and doors under roll mouldings have stained-glass windows and shutters.

The rounded south corner contains on the ground floor a door, flanked on either side by two windows under fanlights, on the storey an arched three-part window under an arched gable termination. The wooden planter rests on blocks.

The south-east facade on the Bussumergrintweg contains one storey with a narrow window on either side of the two-part entrance door with grille.

The terrain slopes down to the west, so that the south-west facade on the Wagnerlaan, on the left side has two storeys with double windows.

The north-west facade is accessible via a brick staircase and contains a slightly risaliting gable top with windows on each storey. The top is covered with rabbit tiles under projecting roof on blocks. On the left side the basement is accessible via a door with side lights under a canopy above which some rabbit tiles. On the storey a double window is placed.

The north-east facade again has one storey. The door on the right side is accessible via a brick staircase. The slightly risaliting gable top contains windows, of which the window at the level of the basement contains bracing straps. The top is covered with rabbit tiles under projecting roof on blocks. A diagonally placed roof dormer with two coupled windows accentuates the north corner.

The interior contains the original layout and the finish in wood, such as doors and frames with lights in stained glass, the stair balustrade, ceilings, wall panelling and fireplace in the living room.

Valuation

The country house is of general importance because of architectural and cultural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a country house in Gooi country-house style with well-preserved interior components, from the first half of the twentieth century to the design of E.G. Middag, image-defining situated in the Kannesheuvelpark.
