Voormalige TUINMANSWONING, genaamd 'De Blauwe Vogel', behorende tot het gelijknamige complex en gebouwd in 1903 in Chalet-stijl naar het ontwerp van E. Verschuyl in opdracht van G. van Mesdag als onderdeel van het landgoed 'Quatre Bras' en gesitueerd aan de zuidzijde van de Mozartlaan.
Omschrijving
De voormalige tuinmanswoning is opgetrokken in rabatdelen uit Noors grenenhout op gepleisterde plint en op een L-vormige plattegrond met een oorspronkelijk open spoelplaats aan de oostzijde, waar zich nu een aanbouw bevindt. De gevels worden geleed door houten stijlen en regels. Het oorspronkelijke volume is opgetrokken in rabatdelen, de aanbouw aan de zuidzijde uit kraaldelen. De woning bevat een begane grond en een zolderverdieping onder overstekend zadeldak met de noklijn evenwijdig aan de weg, bedekt met blauwe kruispannen. De topgevels aan de noord- en westzijde hebben een wolfseind. De chaletachtige versiering loopt door tot de onderdorpel van het zoldervenster. De decoratieve gesneden windveer rust op gesneden consoles en schoren. In het dakschild aan de oostzijde is een dakkapel geplaatst. De bovenlichten hebben een roedenverdeling. Boven de vensters op de begane grond is een chaletachtige versiering aangebracht.
De voorgevel (N) bevat een rechts uit het midden geplaatste risaliet. Op de begane grond bevindt zich in het midden de toegangsdeur met afdakje en halfrond bovenlicht, oorspronkelijk in het gevelvlak links van de risaliet geplaatst. Op de verdieping zijn twee draaivensters aangebracht, gescheiden door een middenstijl. In de zijgevels van de risaliet bevindt zich een kleine opening met glas-in-loodramen. Links van de risaliet bevinden zich twee vensters, rechts is een venster geplaatst. In de noordgevel van de aanbouw aan de oostzijde bevinden zich een deur en een venster met gekleurde glas-in-loodramen. De linker zijgevel (O) bevat de aanbouw. Het lessenaarsdak reikt tot iets onder de aanzet van het zadeldak. In het gevelvlak bevindt zich een venster met gekleurde glas in loodramen. Een schutting verbindt de zijgevel met de garage.
De rechter zijgevel (W) bevat op de begane grond openslaande deuren met een bovenlicht dat terug ligt in het gevelvlak. Op de verdieping bevinden zich twee draaivensters, gescheiden door een middenstijl. De gevel van de aanbouw is blind, in het dakvlak bevindt zich een schoorsteen.

Description
The former gardener's house is erected in feather-board planks of Norwegian spruce on a plastered plinth and on an L-shaped floor plan with an originally open washplace on the east side, where there is now an extension. The facades are articulated by wooden posts and rails. The original volume is erected in feather-board planks, the extension on the south side in beaded planks. The house contains a ground floor and an attic storey under an overhanging gabled roof with the ridge line parallel to the road, covered with blue pantiles. The gable-end facades on the north and west sides have a half-hipped roof. The chalet-like decoration continues to the bottom rail of the attic window. The decorative carved wind brace rests on carved consoles and braces. In the roof plane on the east side a roof dormer is placed. The fanlights have glazing bars. Above the windows on the ground floor a chalet-like decoration is applied.
The front facade (N) contains a risalite placed to the right of centre. On the ground floor there is in the middle the entrance door with a small roof and semicircular fanlight, originally placed in the facade plane to the left of the risalite. On the attic storey two casement windows are placed, separated by a centre post. In the side facades of the risalite there is a small opening with leaded glass windows. To the left of the risalite there are two windows, to the right a window is placed. In the north facade of the extension on the east side there is a door and a window with coloured leaded glass windows. The left side facade (E) contains the extension. The lean-to roof extends to just below the junction of the gabled roof. In the facade plane there is a window with coloured leaded glass. A fence connects the side facade with the garage.
The right side facade (W) contains on the ground floor double doors with a fanlight that is recessed in the facade plane. On the attic storey there are two casement windows, separated by a centre post. The facade of the extension is blank, in the roof plane there is a chimney.
The rear facade (S) contains on the left side the extension, whose roof serves as a balcony. The facade of the main volume is built up and contains at the height of the roof plane a series of four windows. On the ground floor there is a window below the outer windows. In the right facade section a window is placed. In the south facade of the extension on the east side there are a door and two windows.
Valuation
The former gardener's house 'De Blauwe Vogel' is of general importance for its architectural and cultural historical value as a well-preserved example of a gardener's house in Chalet style from the first quarter of the twentieth century and as part of the complex 'De Blauwe Vogel', belonging to the former estate 'Quatre Bras' and situated in the northwestern villa quarter of Hilversum.
