Omschrijving
RUÏNE behorende tot de buitenplaats Huis te Heenvliet. Op een verhoogd en omgracht terrein staat een ruïne bestaande uit de -ondergrondse- 14de/15de-eeuwse fundamenten van de voorburcht (poort en traptoren) en het -bovengrondse- muurwerk van een zeer sterke in oorsprong 13de-eeuwse donjon met ca.2.5 meter dikke muren opgebouwd uit kloostermoppen in Vlaams verband. De burcht is in 1572 verwoest en tot een ruïne vervallen. De op rechthoekige grondslag opgetrokken woontoren met torens op de hoeken is gebouwd op een fundament van poeren verbonden door grondbogen, die onder de waterspiegel en het talud vallen; de torens rusten op uitkragende boogjes; de tweede laag vormde het eigenlijke woonvertrek (eerste laag is kelder) herkenbaar aan de schouw en rookkanaal. Zuidoost toren met wenteltrap; zuidwest toren gebouwd omstreeks 1500 een torenkamer (kelder); overige torens zijn zware versterkingen alleen te bereiken via de weergang en bedoeld voor militaire doeleinden. Aan de oostzijde is een smalle ingang voorzien van een constructie voor een valhek. INWENDIG een vierkante ruimte (kelder) met driezijdig afgesloten kaarsnissen, gevelopeningen, sporen van een schouw en rookkanaal in de noordmuur, in de westmuur een smalle koker (waterput); in de zuidwest toren een overkoepelde ruimte toegankelijk via een eikenhouten deur; in de zuidoost toren een wenteltrap met schietgaten.

Description
RUIN belonging to the country estate Huis te Heenvliet. On a raised and moated site stands a ruin consisting of the -underground- 14th/15th-century foundations of the outer ward (gateway and spiral tower) and the -aboveground- masonry of a very substantial donjon, originally of the 13th century, with walls approximately 2.5 metres thick constructed of monastery bricks in Flemish bond. The castle was destroyed in 1572 and fell into ruin. The residential tower on a rectangular ground plan with corner towers was built on a foundation of posts connected by ground arches, which fall below the water level and the slope; the towers rest on overhanging arches; the second storey formed the actual living quarters (first storey is cellar) recognizable by the fireplace and flue. Southeast tower with spiral staircase; southwest tower built around 1500 a tower chamber (cellar); other towers are heavy fortifications accessible only via the wall-walk and intended for military purposes. On the east side there is a narrow entrance equipped with a construction for a portcullis. INTERIOR a square chamber (cellar) with three-sided recessed wall-cupboards, wall openings, traces of a fireplace and flue in the north wall, in the west wall a narrow shaft (well); in the southwest tower a barrel-vaulted chamber accessible via an oak door; in the southeast tower a spiral staircase with gun-loops.
