Inleiding.
Het WINKEL-WOONHUIS met ACHTERHUIS is in 1910 gebouwd in Eclectische stijl met Neo-Renaissance elementen naar ontwerp van de architect K.C. Suyling. Het is gelegen in het centrum van de stad, op de hoek van de Markt en de Marktstraat, met de winkelpui aan de marktzijde.
Een deel van de fundamenten en zijmuur behoorde tot het stadskasteel 'De Roodenburgh' uit de dertiende eeuw, dat in 1910 is gesloopt.
Omschrijving.
Het pand op rechthoekig grondplan met afgeschuinde hoek is drie bouwlagen hoog en heeft een samengesteld dak. De gevels zijn opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen met natuurstenen elementen en de dakschilden zijn belegd met leien in Maasdekking. De drie zijden van het voorhuis worden bekroond door een trapgevel. De benedenverdieping bestaat uit een winkelruimte en magazijn met tussenvloer. De winkelpui, die zich uitstrekt over twee traveeën van de voorgevel, de afgeschuinde hoek en een travee van de zijgevel, kent getoogde etalage-openingen met granieten kolommen, dito aanzetstenen en en gemetselde togen. Het voorhuis heeft op de eerste en tweede verdieping rechtgesloten vensters met natuurstenen onder- en bovendorpels met op de tweede en derde verdieping natuurstenen aanzetstenen. In de rechter travee van de voorgevel is op de tweede verdieping een halfronde erker aangebracht op natuurstenen kraagsteen. De afgeschuinde hoek eindigt in een erkerachtige vensterpartij met houten kozijnen op de derde verdieping. In de voorgevel tussen de twee rondbogen is een gedenksteen aangebracht met een voorstelling van het voormalig stadskasteel en de tekst "GESTICHT/ XII EEUW/ VERNIEUWD/ ANNO 1910/ ROODENBURG". In de blinde zijgevel van het voorhuis is een groot tegeltableau ingekast met natuurstenen dorpel en aanzetstenen van de Maatschappij van Brandverzekering voor het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, voorstellende hertog Jan te paard die de draak bestrijdt met de tekst "GAAT WEG VAN HIER MONSTER, DIT BOSCH BEHOORT MIJ", gesigneerd door Dorus Hermsen.
De zijgevel heeft een gemetselde plint en een hardstenen speklaag en aanzetstenen. Introduction.
The SHOP-DWELLING HOUSE with REAR BUILDING was built in 1910 in Eclectic style with Neo-Renaissance elements to the design of architect K.C. Suyling. It is located in the centre of the city, at the corner of the Markt and the Marktstraat, with the shop front facing the Markt.
Part of the foundations and side wall belonged to the city castle 'De Roodenburgh' from the thirteenth century, which was demolished in 1910.

The building on a rectangular ground plan with chamfered corner is three storeys high and has a complex roof. The facades are constructed from machine-made brick with dressed stone elements and the roof slopes are covered with slate in Dutch bond. The three sides of the front building are crowned by a stepped gable. The ground floor consists of a shop space and warehouse with intermediate floor. The shop front, which extends over two bays of the front facade, the chamfered corner and one bay of the side facade, has arched shop-window openings with granite columns, likewise plinth stones and rubble arches. The front building has on the first and second storeys straight-headed windows with dressed stone undersills and oversills with on the second and third storeys dressed stone plinth stones. The windows have sash windows with leaded-glass fanlights. On the first floor two French balconies are placed, one in the right bay of the front facade and one on the chamfered corner. Both consist of wrought-iron railings and a dressed stone shelf and corbels. In the right bay of the front facade on the second storey a semicircular bay window is placed on a dressed stone corbel. The chamfered corner ends in a bay-like window arrangement with wooden frames on the third storey. In the front facade between the two arches a memorial stone is placed with a representation of the former city castle and the text "FOUNDED/ XII CENTURY/ RENEWED/ ANNO 1910/ ROODENBURG". In the blind side facade of the front building a large tile panel is set with dressed stone undersill and plinth stones from the Fire Insurance Company for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, depicting Duke Jan on horseback combating the dragon with the text "GO AWAY FROM HERE MONSTER, THIS BOSCH BELONGS TO ME", signed by Dorus Hermsen.

On the ground floor an arched warehouse door is placed and an arched window, as well as an arched cellar opening which is flanked by small round windows. The layout of the rear building is largely unchanged, but contains few valuable original details.
