Inleiding.
De PEILSCHAAL is gelegen in de kademuur van de Brede Haven, nabij de brug bij de Oliemolensingel. Circa tien meter ten zuiden van deze brug bevindt zich een uitbouw in de kademuur, waarin een trap naar de aanlegsteigers is aangebracht. Aan de noordelijke zijde van deze uitbouw een uit 1899 daterende peilschaal. Deze is uitgevoerd in een Traditioneel-Ambachtelijke stijl.
Omschrijving.
De hardstenen peilschaal is gevat binnen een aantal natuurstenen blokken, ingemetseld in de bakstenen kademuur. Op de peilschaal, die is opgebouwd uit verscheidene hardstenen blokken, is de waterstand ten opzichte van het Normaal Amsterdams Peil in centimeters en ellen aangegeven. Boven de peilschaal wordt de kademuur afgedekt door een natuurstenen lijst, waarop de tekst "Rijks Peilschaal boven N.A.P."
Waardering.
De peilschaal is van algemeen belang. De peilschaal bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling: het vormt een illustratie van de waterstaatkundig-infrastructurele ontwikkelingen rondom 's-Hertogenbosch. De peilschaal bezit ensemblewaarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met de waterwegen in 's-Hertogenbosch. Introduction.
The WATER GAUGE is located in the quay wall of the Brede Haven, near the bridge at the Oliemolensingel. Approximately ten metres south of this bridge there is an extension in the quay wall, in which a staircase to the landing stages is installed. On the northern side of this extension a water gauge dating from 1899. This is executed in a Traditional-Craft style.
Description.
The hardstone water gauge is set within a number of natural stone blocks, embedded in the brick quay wall. On the water gauge, which is built up from several hardstone blocks, the water level is indicated in centimetres and ells in relation to Normaal Amsterdams Peil. Above the water gauge the quay wall is topped by a natural stone cornice, on which the text "Rijks Peilschaal boven N.A.P."
Valuation.
The water gauge is of general interest.
