Inleiding
Omstreeks 1865 gebouwd WOONHUIS van het type herenhuis, gelegen op de hoek van de Vest en de Sint Jorisbrug. Het pand vormt samen met het hoekpand Steegoversloot 269-279 een visuele poort naar de Vest. Het pand maakt deel uit van het beschermde stadsgezicht van Dordrecht.
Het huis heeft verschillende functies gehad, waaronder dat van ziekenhuis. Een gedeelte van het oorspronkelijke interieur is door brand verwoest, waardoor er weinig elementen uit de bouwtijd bewaard zijn gebleven. De ruimte-indeling van het pand is gewijzigd.
Omschrijving
Vanuit een vrijwel rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken onderkelderd woonhuis van twee bouwlagen onder een met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen gedekt mansardedak. De gepleisterde gevels zijn symmetrisch ingedeeld boven een hardstenen plint en worden afgesloten door een kroonlijst. De gevels worden horizontaal geleed door cordonlijsten onder de vensters en verticaal door geblokte lisenen op de hoeken en tussen de vensterassen. De gevelhoek op de overgang tussen Steegoversloot en Vest is afgerond. De rechtgesloten vensters bevatten schuiframen. Aan weerszijden van de vensterkozijnen bevindt zich een geprofileerde stuclijst, terwijl boven het kozijn een kroonlijstvormige bekroning is aangebracht.
De rijk uitgevoerde voorgevel (noordzijde) bevindt zich aan de Steegoversloot en is drie vensterassen breed. In de plint zijn recht onder de vensters rechthoekige openingen aangebracht voor de kelder. Uit de kroonlijst boven de lisenen steken dubbele consoles. De middentravee wordt bekroond door een rijke dakkapel met fronton. Aan weerszijden van de twee openslaande ramen in het midden van de dakkapel, zijn twee panelen aangebracht.De afgeronde gevelhoek heeft dezelfde indeling als één travee in de voorgevel.
De westelijke zijgevel aan de Vest is twee vensterassen breed. Een liseen tussen de vensters ontbreekt hier. Op de begane grond aan de rechterkant bevindt zich de entree met een onder een bovenlicht met glas-in-lood staande vleugeldeur.

Het pand is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de stedenbouwkundige en de architectuurhistorische waarde.

Introduction
Around 1865 constructed RESIDENTIAL HOUSE of the type mansion house, situated at the corner of the Vest and the Sint Jorisbrug. The building forms together with the corner building Steegoversloot 269-279 a visual gateway to the Vest. The building is part of the protected townscape of Dordrecht.
The house has had various functions, including that of hospital. A part of the original interior was destroyed by fire, as a result of which few elements from the construction period have been preserved. The spatial layout of the building has been altered.
Description
Constructed from an almost rectangular ground plan, a basement-level residential house of two storeys under a mansard roof covered with suppressed Dutch tiles. The plastered facades are symmetrically arranged above a hardstone plinth and are terminated by a cornice. The facades are horizontally articulated by cordon mouldings beneath the windows and vertically by fluted pilasters on the corners and between the window axes. The facade corner at the transition between Steegoversloot and Vest is rounded. The rectangular-headed windows contain sash windows. On either side of the window frames is a moulded stucco moulding, while above the frame a cornice-shaped crowning is applied.
The richly executed front facade (north side) is situated on the Steegoversloot and is three window axes wide. In the plinth, rectangular openings are arranged directly beneath the windows for the cellar. From the cornice above the pilasters project double corbels. The central bay is crowned by a richly detailed roof dormer with a pediment. On either side of the two glazed doors in the middle of the roof dormer, two panels are arranged. The rounded facade corner has the same arrangement as one bay in the front facade.
The western side facade on the Vest is two window axes wide. A pilaster between the windows is absent here. On the ground floor on the right-hand side is the entrance with a glazed double door standing beneath a fanlight with leaded glass.
