Inleiding

Introduction

A DWELLING-HOUSE probably built in 1869 in an Eclectic style common for the building period, of the type of a town mansion. This concerns the joining together of two buildings behind a front facade from c. 1869. The left building likewise dates from 1869, the right building has a much older core. In 1908, during a conversion by the Dordrecht architect Carel Tenenti, a number of rooms were again interconnected. The rear building of the right section was destroyed in 1944 by bomb damage and rebuilt in 1945. During the 1945 conversion an internal conversion also took place by architect P.G. Willemsen. In 1952 an internal conversion was carried out by architect van Bilderbeek. The house is connected on the left side with a corner building likewise built in 1869 and forms part of a closed facade wall in the protected historic townscape of Dordrecht.

Description

The three-storey dwelling-house consists of a joining together of two buildings behind a front facade from c. 1869 which is entirely constructed in plastered brick above a hardstone plinth. The left building dates from 1869, the right is an older building. Internally, at roof height and in the rear facades the difference in floor level between the buildings is still legible. The roof, which consists of 2 parts, is hidden behind the cornice and consists internally of a scissor-truss roof with oak curved-style framing on the front part of the right building, and a roof with Philibert trusses on the left building.

The virtually symmetrical, four-bay front facade is provided with arched facade openings standing within profiled surrounds and corner pilasters with spandrels. The lowermost storey, enlivened by false joints, contains a non-original door standing above a hardstone threshold beneath a fanlight filled with leaded glass. The two windows on the left and the window on the right of the door stand above hardstone sills and are provided with cross windows beneath fanlights filled with leaded glass. The breast wall standing above a profiled band moulding beneath the windows of the first storey has simple decoration. The windows contain T-shaped windows, of which the upper windows are filled with leaded glass. They stand behind cast-iron French balconets. The low windows of the second storey contain two-pane windows and likewise stand behind French balconets of cast iron. The entablature is broken above the pilasters and is provided with nine decorative consoles which support a profiled cornice. The entablature is, as is the height of the facade openings, identical to that of the left adjoining building built in 1869, with which it has a strong relationship.

The rear facade of the right volume is originally a two-bay cornice-topped facade, which as such is only still recognizable on the third storey. The rear facade of the left building is a two-bay spout gable, which has been altered on the ground floor.

In the interior there are notably in the entrance hall above the main entrance a leaded glass fanlight, a white marble floor and marble wainscoting, a stucco ceiling with stylized leaf motifs and a cove moulding with flower motif and a draught door with glazing bars. In the house there are still several panelled doors with corresponding surrounds. Beneath the right building a cellar with paving tiles. Above the stairwell in the right building a roof light provided with glazing bars and leaded glass with geometric motifs. On the storey in the room to the left front a red marble fireplace with white marble consoles and a simple stucco ceiling with flower motif. In the room to the left back a tiled fireplace in Art Deco style.
